WHO:
  • Reigning NHRA Funny Car world champion Ron Capps
  • Dean ‘Guido’ Antonelli, crew chief on the NAPA Auto Parts Toyota GR Supra
WHAT:
The NAPA Auto Parts Toyota GR Supra Funny Car team is going for the ‘Capps Trick’ in 2023! After winning his second consecutive Funny Car title and third overall in 2022, Ron Capps and the NAPA team are campaigning to make it a ‘Capps Trick’ by clinching their third consecutive championship title. The team will begin their pursuit of making it three-in-a-row when the NHRA Camping World Series season kicks off with the NHRA Gatornationals in Gainesville, Fla., March 10 – 12.
After making his debut as an NHRA team owner in 2022, Capps and the NAPA team wasted no time putting together an impressive campaign during Ron Capps Motorsports’ rookie season. The 73-time race winner notched five event wins in nine final rounds, six No. 1 qualifiers, and by clinching the 2022 title, Capps became the first Funny Car driver to win back-to-back championships in 20 years.
The second-year RCM team will continue to operate under the tuning guidance of crew chief Dean ‘Guido’ Antonelli. He will be aided by newly-minted assistant crew chief Tom Buckingham, who was promoted following co-crew chief John Medlen’s retirement at the conclusion of the 2022 season.
Media members will have the opportunity to speak with Capps and Antonelli before the team heads to Gainesville for pre-season testing.
