Line claims the No. 3 position at Winternationals

POMONA, Calif. - Jason Line began his defense of his NHRA POWERade Pro Stock championship by qualifying No. 3 at the 47th running of the NHRA CARQUEST Auto Parts Winternationals.

On Friday, Line turned in his best pass of four qualifying sessions when he drove his Summit Racing Equipment Pontiac to the No. 3 position on the final Pro Stock ladder. He covered the Auto Club Raceway at Pomona quarter-mile in 6.641 seconds at 208.46 mph.

"Things went remarkably well during qualifying and I'm pleased with the results," Line said.

Both Line and teammate Greg Anderson, who qualified No. 1, are running the GM DRCE3 (third generation General Motors Drag Racing Competition Engine) in their Pontiac's this weekend.

"It looks like Greg and I are off to a pretty good start considering the fact that we are running brand new engines in both Summit Racing Pontiacs," added Line. "This is the first time our GM DRCE3 has been used in actual competition and we are pleased with the results thus far. It was a long time in the development stages but I feel this engine should continue to get better and better as we get more track time and dyno time with it."

Line has never won an event at Auto Club Raceway at Pomona but he was runner-up at the NHRA Finals in 2004 and 2006. He is looking for his 13th career win and will face Warren Johnson in the opening round of tomorrow's eliminations. WJ qualified No. 14 with a run of 6.676 seconds at 207.56 mph.
