Somewhere in Iowa, USA, August 8, 2008- The Desert Dawgs drove to Sturgis, SD – Motorcycle Mecca- for the AHDRA Screamin’ Eagle Performance Parts “Race at the Rally” and are now in transit to The Rush Thunder in the Valley Nationals in Bristol, TN.

After having a month off from racing and only doing a little bike maintenance, the Dawgs were anxious to arrive in SD and they did so on Sunday afternoon, in time to head downtown to visit some friends, sponsors, new products and to see some ‘local color’ and over 200,000 bikes. First stop, finding Paul & Ariana from Lyndall Racing Brakes at their booth and inviting them out to the track for dinner, then stopping by to see Donna & Wayne Pingel’s new Café & Grill “Shifters”. Next stop, take in a short history of the Sturgis Rally at the Motorcycle Museum and then back to Sturgis Dragway for anything but vendor food!

Monday was a work day for Karen Raffa (AHDRA Contingency Director) and Greg Krenik had some minor work to do on his bikes. Steve Allstaedt, Crew Chief had asked Greg not to run in Monday’s Test n’ Tune, mainly because Steve wants to see and hear EVERY run and he wanted Greg to run conservatively (actually he didn’t want him to run at all) this weekend, because these bikes have to last a few more races to take these championships. Plus, Sturgis is not a points race…just a FUN race…AND the WIN money is the same and that will get the Desert Dawgs to Tennessee! So we race!

Tuesday was qualifying and Greg was the #1 Qualifier in BOTH classes! This is Greg’s 6th time in his Career as a Pro Rider to race the fastest in PS & PM during Qualifying. At the AHDRA opening ceremonies, the 14 riders were announced and the Sturgis crowds were aplenty to make them feel great about their NUMBER ONES!

Crew Chieftress, Ms. Raffa found herself doing everything to help husband Greg get down the racetrack, and in between rounds she managed to kill the battery on the pit bike and then when she was asked for the ‘side-stand’, she handed Greg the air pressure gauge! Minutes later, she found herself FIRED…until Greg could not find anyone else that would work for FREE…she was then rehired (for an amazing ‘signing bonus’ ) and by the next day she worked much better knowing that she will get a paycheck! HA!

Wednesday (WOW Wednesday already…the Dawgs have to be in Tennessee -1600 miles away -on Friday...yiiikes!) Elimination Day….this was one of those ‘hurry-up and wait’ days. The AHDRA starts racing at 1pm (I guess so all the late nighters can get a good rest after all the entertainment in town-KISS, Kid Rock, Saliva and John McCain!) Today Greg had some very good runs…his best 60 foot on the PS in a long time. And compared to last year, he ran STRAIGHT! No close calls to the wall or crossing over the center line, nice smooth, straight, clean, FAST passes! “We are back and ready to get to Bristol, our next points race...to try and keep our momentum going. Maybe some of the PM ‘luck’ will rub off on the PS and we can close in on the points leader, this is a good time to do that” exclaimed Krenik.

In the Finals… BOTH classes were won by Krenik and his Teammate- Karen. Since this was a ‘FUN’ race (read no-points) there will be no technical aspects in this Press Release! “We had so much fun and many laughs and the crowds were just wonderful. Greg never talked so much to so many people about his bikes! We gave away some ‘hero’ cards and sold some decals and now we have to get this 27 hour drive to Tennessee, under our belt…before we can do it all again…for points!” cried Karen…and the last words out of her mouth were “I miss Steve”!
