Clay Millican Ready for Run at First NHRA Top Fuel Win

Kenny Koretsky returns to the scene of one of his best NHRA Pro Stock races this weekend with the hope of duplicating or bettering it by the time the sun goes down on Monday at O'Reilly Raceway Park.

Koretsky, the 2004 Mac Tools U.S. Nationals runner-up will be in his familiar blue Nitro Fish/ISC Racers Tape Dodge with horsepower supplied by Larry Morgan while Dave Northrop is driving the red Nitro Fish/ISC Racers Tape Dodge that will be powered by an Allen Johnson motor in the 52nd running of the sport's oldest, most prestigious race.

"I'm really thankful to be able to race at the U.S. Nationals," said Koretsky, who drove for the first time this season at Brainerd, Minn., August 13. "It is our biggest race and I really want to be a part of it. Eddie (Guarnaccia, crew chief) and Dave tested my car at St. Louis Tuesday and Wednesday with good results."

Koretsky was on the sidelines until earlier this month because he wanted to be certain his body had fully recovered from injuries sustained in his accident with Bruce Allen last October at the Texas Motorplex near Dallas.

"The test session was pretty good overall," Guarnaccia said. "There were 10 or 12 cars testing. Some were real fast and we were respectable with the blue car. We were able to sort out some issues we've had with carburetors.
Now we're looking forward to going to Indy."

Northrop has been coming to the U.S. Nationals as a competitor "since the
mid-1980s," he said. "I raced my Comp Eliminator car here. It's always exciting to come to Indy. It is a special race."

Millican Enthused about U.S. Nationals, New "Motorvation" Sponsor

"I'm excited, just like everyone else, about going to the U.S. Nationals," said Clay Millican, driver of Koretsky's Nitro Fish/Werner Enterprises Top Fuel dragster that will wear the colors of Motorvation Automotive Performance Products for this event.

"That would be a great race for me to win and get my first NHRA victory. I
have to start somewhere; why not at the U.S. Nationals with a new sponsor?"

Millican, the five-time reigning IHRA Top Fuel champion, has been to three NHRA final rounds while driving a limited number of NHRA races.

"Mike Kloeber (crew chief) has been working hard to get our car running good," added Millican, "and it is getting better."

Kloeber and his crew uncovered a trouble spot in the car's dash Sunday after a loss to Doug Foley in the semifinals of an IHRA race at Norwalk, ohio.

"We found one frayed wire and one broken wire that both go into the ignition
system," Millican said. "That definitely was our problem in our semifinal loss to Doug Foley and it gives us a little ray of hope that it could be responsible for some of the trouble we've had most of the season."

Koretsky, meanwhile, said he was "enthused about Motorvation and owner Mark Pickens coming on board with us. I agree with Clay that it would be great to get a win for them."

KPK Motorsports appreciates all its sponsors. We couldn't do this without them. Our thanks to Werner Enterprises, Nitro Fish, OCC, Motel 6, Goodyear, Royal Purple, Champion, Speed Pro, Fel Pro, FRAM, Prestone, Autolite, ISC Racers Tape, Cyclo, Boninfante Clutches, American Racing Wheels, Jerry Bickel Race Cars and VHT.
