Koretsky Drives into Pro Stock Semifinals at U.S. Nationals

Kenny Koretsky parlayed good reaction times with a bit of luck Monday into a Pro Stock semifinal finish in the Mac Tools U.S. Nationals on a hot, sunny day at O'Reilly Raceway Park.

Koretsky, the No. 10 qualifier, outran Larry Morgan in the opening round and capitalized when Jim Yates experienced mechanical trouble in the quarterfinals. In the semifinals against Dave Connolly, one of the hottest drivers in the category, Koretsky couldn't keep up. Connolly won with a 6.697-second, 206.04-mph effort to Koretsky's 6.799 at 203.49 mph, and then went on to win the race.

"We've come a long way since not qualifying (two weeks ago at Reading,Pa.)," said Koretsky, who started 10th. “We finally got a break in our race with Yates. I had a .015 (second) reaction time and Jim didn't get down the track, but we had a clutch problem, too." Koretsky won with a 7.379 at 170.23 mph.

In the opening round, Koretsky jumped to the early lead (.060 reaction time to Morgan's .119) and held on, winning, 6.763, 205.76 to 6.947, 203.71.

"Any time you get to the semifinals of the U.S. Nationals, it is a great race," Koretsky concluded.
