K & N Engineering Allows Teams to Breathe a Little Easier

Lima, Ohio – Performance by Fisher Racing is no stranger to the high performance products available from K & N Engineering. Like many other teams, they have been using various products from the K & N line-up for not only their everyday vehicle applications but more recently their team dragsters.

With the amount of time and money that is invested in building a top notch drag race motor, one doesn’t want to take chances with any sort of debris inadvertently making its way into the engine. Be it a small stone or anything of the sort, one tiny foreign object can turn into big repair dollars, let alone a lost race.

That’s where a small investment in a K & N Engineering High-Flow Air Filter can be one of the best insurance policies you could ever buy when it comes to protecting your hard earned dollars. Kathy and Kevin Fisher of Performance by Fisher Racing are all too aware of just how much this investment can save you.

“Several years ago when I was still bracket racing, I tweaked a valve thanks to a little rock getting in the motor,” Kathy said. “Since we have started using the scoop tray inserts with the K & N High-Flow filters, we have been able to avoid a few close calls with both our team cars.”
“It’s amazing what you’ll find from time to time resting on top of the filter,” Kevin added. “I know we have exceeded our investment many times over.”
K & N Engineering makes thousands of racing and specialty type air filters. What racers may not be aware of are the custom made air filters for high horse power, larger cubic inch motors.

“With our move to Top Dragster this season, we were a little concerned that the K & N filter we had been using would not flow enough air for the bigger motor. Bob Harris hooked us up with a specially designed filter made with engines like this in mind,” said Kevin.

Bob Harris, Corporate Race Accounts Manager for K & N Engineering, Inc. has worked with many teams over the years that have made the move to bigger engines. While most K & N filters consist of four to six sheets of cotton gauze layered between two sheets of aluminum wire mesh then oiled to enhance filtering capabilities and overall performance, Bob knew this may be a little much for the 600+ cubic inch motors.

“We developed a special drag race application only K & N High Flow Air Filter.” Bob explained. “This special filter is made of only two layers and is un-oiled for extremely high flow. These are not made for the everyday stresses of street applications, but for protection of the ever growing popularity of bigger motors. Perfect example is the 615 that Kevin will run this year in Top Dragster.”

K & N offers many different filters for drag racing applications from scoop filters to the scoop pan tray filters. These can be purchased at your local K & N retailer or many of the high-performance catalog outlets. For those racers who are in need of the filter for the bigger cubic inch motors, ordering one is as easy as picking up the phone and calling K & N at (800) 858-3333 or (951) 826-4000.

“All customers need to do is contact our customer service department and order part number 33-2035. Let the representative know that you need the filter to be only two layers, un-oiled and you’ll be ready to go.” Bob said.
K & N Engineering not only helps you protect your investment at the track but also offers thousands of dollars in contingency payouts each season with several sanctioning bodies.
