FUNNY CAR POINTS LEADER CAPPS COLLECTS NO. 7 IN NORWALK QUALIFYING

NORWALK, Ohio (June 30, 2007) - NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series Funny Car points leader Ron Capps collected the No. 7 qualifying position for the Inaugural Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals today at Summit Racing Equipment Motorsports Park, and the class standout is ready for Sunday's eliminations at this spectacular new venue for the NHRA.

Capps recorded his quickest pass of 4.775/324.67 in the cooler Friday-night session. His other laps included a 4.870/314.31, a tire-shaking 10.879/76.19 and finally a solid 4.899/309.56 in the afternoon summer heat today.

"Every track has its nuances," said the driver of the Brut "Test Drive" Dodge Charger R/T, three-time winner this season, "but there's not a whole lot to complain about here in Norwalk. The fireworks show Friday night was unbelievable. After we got done running, I crawled up in the grandstands at the finish line, and watched about $40,000 worth of fireworks that they set off. It was one of the most unbelievable Friday-night sessions I have ever seen as a spectator. That was fun.

"Obviously, we made a good run Friday night and that was key. That pretty much set the field. With the exception of a couple of people, nobody really moved (up in the field). So, it was good to get down the last run in the heat, in the afternoon. But, right now it's hard to get excited because of our Mopar/Oakley teammate Gary Scelzi (who failed to qualify). We've been through that, so I'll try to cheer those guys up a little bit.

"But, I guarantee, the Mopar/Oakley guys will be over helping our Brut guys tomorrow. That's just the way it is here.

"It's going to be a dogfight on Sunday. Conditions are going to be warm again. The track is tricky, but it's got good grip and I think even with the heat on it this place has shown that it can hold some pretty decent runs. So, we'll just get up in the morning, get the blood flowing and see what we can do."

Capps meets Kenny Bernstein in the first round of eliminations on Sunday.
