FULLER SECURES NUMBER TWO POSITION IN COUNTDOWN TO ONE

PETERSBURG, Va. (Oct. 7, 2007) – Rod Fuller drove his David Powers-owned Caterpillar dragster to a first-round finish Sunday at Virginia Motorsports Park on a weekend that saw the five-time NHRA winner secure a position in the Countdown to One in NHRA’s Countdown to the Championship. He will enter the final two events on the 2007 NHRA schedule ranked second trailing points-leader Larry Dixon by 10 points.

The Las Vegas racer qualified his Caterpillar dragster seventh with an elapsed time of 4.591-seconds on Saturday afternoon at V.M.P. Fuller was pitted against New Jersey racer Doug Foley for the third time this season. Fuller used a Rob Flynn tune-up to race the Caterpillar-backed rail to a run of 4.634 seconds at 320.89 mph. However, Foley’s pass of 4.603 at 323.43 was quick enough to earn the round win. It is just the fifth opening round loss of the season for Fuller who has competed in 55 rounds this season. Fuller is now 2-2 versus Foley in his career.

“I guess I’m still carrying this lucky horseshoe,” Fuller said. “To lose early and still come out of here second and less than a round from the lead heading into (Las) Vegas is a real shot in the arm to our team. We were really excited. Usually when we go out early, our heads are hanging. It takes a lot of luck to win a championship and we seem to have luck on our side. I just hope we can keep it going.

“I’ve always said I want to win the Vegas race. I live in Las Vegas , so winning there would be bigger than winning Indy for me. There’s a lot of money on the line with the championship and the (Technicoat) Shootout, so we’re going to test at Las Vegas and be ready to win this thing.”

The next NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series event is the seventh annual ACDelco Las Vegas NHRA Nationals, Oct. 25-28, at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway in Las Vegas . Oct. 7. Fuller drove to a semifinal finish at The Strip this April.

R1 Foley (.073) 4.603 ET, 323.43 MPH def. FULLER (.095) 4.634 ET, 320.89 MPH
