ELLIS LANDS IN NO. 2 IN ENGLISHTOWN QUALIFYING

ENGLISHTOWN, N.J. (June 21, 2008) – Schumacher Electric Suzuki Pro Stock Motorcycle rider Chip Ellis rode a string of 6-second elapsed times to qualify in the No. 2 position for the fourth time in six races this season at the NHRA SuperNationals at Old Bridge Township Raceway Park.

Ellis saved his best effort for his final attempt, recording a stunning 6.937-second run at 192.88 mph in the heat of the day to end the qualifying rounds in No. 2. He set low elapsed time in the final session and top speed of the event so far. His other runs were a 6.967/190.46 (No. 3), 6.970/189.60 (No. 3), and 6.976/192.36 (No. 4). All four of his qualifying passes were within four-hundredths of a second of each other, making the Schumacher Electric Suzuki one of the most consistent Pro Stock Motorcycles of the event.

"(Crew chief) Steve Tartaglia and I both felt like the Schumacher Electric Suzuki should have been running a little better than it was," said Ellis, who entered the race third in the point standings. "I missed on my driving a little bit and we had an issue here and there but, all in all, we pulled it off in the heat of the day and that's when we're going to be racing on Sunday in eliminations.

"The chassis has been working great and the bike has been running incredible 60-ft. times and we still know that there's more in it. We think we can run a 6.90 or 6.91 if we make everything just right."

Ellis was all smiles. "Oh man, the bike is awesome and to be doing it on a Suzuki is great,” he said. “People are saying the Suzukis can't run, but Steve Tartaglia is proving them wrong. He knows how to make that sucker run and we're working real well together. We just have to keep up the momentum going into tomorrow, go four rounds, and have fun. Sunday could be our day.”

Ellis will square off against No. 15 qualifier Joe Desantis in round one of eliminations on Sunday.
