Duane Shields Goes to Quarter Finals at Norwalk (1 Viewer)

After a few weeks off, Duane Shields in the PEAK A/Fuel Dragster was back in competition. This time the team was in Norwalk, Ohio at the 11th annual Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals. Unfortunately, heavy rain was an unwelcome guest on Friday and put everyone at a tuning disadvantage. Still, the PEAK Dragster qualified well with a 5.33 at 273 MPH to land Duane fifth in the qualifying order.

In round one, Duane faced former nostalgia funny car star Kris Krabil who recently made the switch to the long cars. At the hit, Krabil got out of the gate first but his lead didn’t last long as Duane was on a good pass and got the win light with a 5.35 at 270 MPH to Krabil’s valiant 5.43 at 258 MPH.

In the quarter finals, Duane took on fellow west coast racer Chris Demke in the Peen Rite Dragster. At the hit, Duane smoked the tires while Demke was on a clean run which rang up a 5.39 and ended Duane’s weekend. “We backed the car down so we were surprised that it smoked the tires. We will try and improve at the Regional race next weekend before the Chicago Nationals” Duane said after the event. Duane would like to thank his sponsors PEAK Antifreeze and Motor Oil, Final Charge, Blue Def, NGK, GRP and Brad Anderson Enterprises.
