Dixon Qualifies 15th at Sonoma

SOMONA, Calif.(July 29) -- Two-time NHRA Top Fuel champion Larry Dixon made his best run of the weekend Saturday at Infineon Raceway as the Miller Lite driver clocked an elapsed time of 4.711 seconds to claim the No. 15 qualifying position at the 19th annual FRAM-Autolite Nationals.

Dixon, the winningest active Top Fuel racer with 38 career victories, opened qualifying with a solid pass of 4.733 seconds at 319.60 mph in his Miller Lite/Lucas Oil rail. After battling tire-shake issues on his next two qualifying attempts, the Top Fuel ace powered his Don "the Snake" Prudhomme-owned rail to a run of 4.711 seconds at a blistering 323.89 mph to claim the No. 15 qualifying position. Dixon qualified third at the Sonoma race last year.

"We got the car down the track on the last run and that was important for the team," Dixon said. "We're in the show and everyone knows that anything can happen on race day."

Dixon will battle beer rival Brandon Bernstein in the first round of Top Fuel eliminations which begin at Noon (PT) on Sunday at Infineon Raceway. It will be the fourth time that Dixon and Bernstein have battled in 2006. Dixon recorded a semifinal finish at the FRAM-Autolite Nationals last season.
