Coughlin's looking for more success at Atco

ATCO, N.J. -- There is more than $200,000 up for grabs at this weekend's AA Auto Salvage Superbucks weekend at Atco Dragway and Team Jeg's drivers John and Jeg Coughlin intend to get their hands on a chunk of it. This year, the Coughlin's made the decision to expand their schedule to include more of the nation's bigger E.T. bracket events and the Superbucks race certainly fits that bill.

"I've been telling people all year how much I enjoy racing at these big bracket events and I'm really looking forward to this Atco race," said Jeg. "The Northeast has some of the best racers in the country so I'm sure the competition will be intense. This is also a great opportunity to travel to some places we don't normally get to race and to meet a lot of new people."

The highlight of the Superbucks event will be a trio of $20,000 to win E.T. races on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, Aug. 4-6. There will also be a pair of Gambler's races paying $5,000 and $2,500 respectively. In addition, the overall points champion for the weekend will receive a $1,500 bonus.

Jeg Coughlin received a lot of notoriety earlier this year when he won the Top Dragster title at the Jegs.com NHRA Cajun SPORTSnationals in Belle Rose, La., but most of the three-time world champion's success this season has come in big money E.T. races. Coughlin has already banked more than $30,000 following wins in Piedmont, N.C. and Hamilton, Ohio.

John Coughlin is also enjoying a solid season with a $5,000 victory earlier this year in Farmington, N.C. Both Coughlin brothers will be racing their JEG'S Mail Order Dragsters at the event.

"I like racing my Super Stock car, but these big bracket races are a nice change of pace," said John. "And, every serious bracket racer knows that the Atco Superbucks races are some of the best races in the country. The money is great and the format is very racer-friendly. Jeggie and I are having a good year so far. Hopefully we can keep the momentum going."
