How about a new rule?
Anybody that posts the winner of the race before it's aired on TV needs to keep the winners name out of the thread title. Violate the rule and be banned for a week. Sound good? It's not hard to post a thread without spoiling it for everyone else.

Brent....this has been discussed time and time again over the years. The ONLY way to avoid spoilers is not get online. Hell! I don't even read text messages on my cellie if I don't want to know.

Not true. On a motorcyle forum I'm on this exact rule I'm proposing is in effect and it works just fine. Keep the names out of the thread title and it doesn't ruin it for everyone. If it's in the the thread, but not the thread title, you have to hover over the thread title or click on it to read it. If it's in the thread title there's no way to miss it.

If you don't want to know, stay offline. That isn't that hard to do either.

I agree Kel. Sometimes I won't even go online for a day or so if I've recorded the race and haven't got through the final round of playback. I also don't answer the cel phone.
I made an exception when Del won and Chad called me from Houston in the crew truck going down to pick Del up at the other end. Getting your first win is special.

If this is such a big deal, I assume you don't go to NHRA.com on race day before you've seen it, right? What's so hard about staying away from here?

Re: How about a new rule?
The way I see it is that WAY more members enjoy coming here to discuss the day(s) events while they are going on than the members who don't want to get updated.
It's an outlet to discuss the sport we love. Sometimes (usually later in the season) I am one of the ones that likes to come 'discuss' how the event is going.
Majority rules, right?

Re: How about a new rule?
I think out of decency having spoiler alert in a thread title wouldn't be bad but I don't see a need for a hard and fast rule.
Personally I don't want it to be spoiled so I don't come here or any other race site on race day

I don't get how this would work. Give an example of a thread title that would be good, and one that would be bad. How do you know not to read a thread?
The only way I can possibly see this working is a strict "SPOILER: " in the title kind of rule, and there's no way to enforce it.
When does the rule expire? When the TV show airs? "But wait, I TiVo'ed it and will watch it later". What about that? The next day? You can't be serious...
And if I spaced and forgot, what would the punishment be? Whipping with a wet noodle?
This seems silly to me.

Re: How about a new rule?
My feeling is that on race day until after it airs we should keep the names out of the title. Maybe have generic names for each race/class. What is so hard about making the title "Atlanta FC winner" as compared to "Ashley Force wins FC" at Atlanta? I know for myself I have usually have to be up very early on Mondays and can not afford to stay up until 11pm to watch the end of a race so I record it. However before I go to bed I would like to check Nitromater to check on other posts so that my Monday. Besides can't the title of the thread be changed by the original poster?

It won't happen on this website. I suggest that anyone that doesn't want to know the results should stay offline. Although today, AOL had Ashley on their homepage, so maybe just stay in your bubble till you are ready to come out. I personally like to see the immediate posts and subsequent replies. I listen to the broadcast live, know of the winners before every show, but watch the show anyway. Doesn't bother me at all. I do have friends that don't want to know, so I don't spoil it for them. Those particular people know better than to get on Nitromater before the show. If it bothers anyone that much, the best thing is to stay offine.

Re: How about a new rule?
Brent, I have only been a member a couple of days, Stop your whining. We come to forum to talk/type our thoughts. We have no idea when you are going to watch the show. As far as I know you might have something going on Sunday night and not even be able to watch it til monday. Next rule you will want to make is no bsing til you say ok, I saw it.
Shut down the computer on sunday race day.

Re: How about a new rule?
I think its funny ever time someone posts this topic. STAY THE HELL OFF THE COMPUTER if you dont want to know. Ask my wife, I have to find something else to do so I dont get on the computer and listen to the audiocast or look up the results. I cant visit 25 of the 30 websites I visit daily on Sunday otherwise I will know the results. So, therefore, I STAY OFF THE COMPUTER. Plain and simple. Easy 100 percent way of not knowing.

Re: How about a new rule?
Brent did not say that we should not talk about about the winners etc, all he asked was that winners names be kept out of the titles, that should not be difficult at all. Some are acting like he has asked that no one posts anything on race day, all he asked is that no one posts until it is aired. Maybe his punnishment is a little harsh though. I should have added on my original post is that I believe that once the race has aired all bets are off on posting.
Also I realized that I did not finish a sentence it should have said "However before I go to bed I would like to check Nitromater to check on other posts so on Monday I do not have to go bacl throuhg 2 days worth of posts."
