Schumacher brushes aside title talk

(10-7-08) Richmond, VA -- Since leaving Memphis Motorsports Park two weeks ago, U.S. Army Top Fuel driver Tony “The Sarge” Schumacher has been inundated with calls and e-mails about him winning a fifth consecutive world championship.
After securing his 13th victory of the season at the O’Reilly Mid-South Nationals, it seems most folks have already crowned Schumacher the 2008 Top Fuel world champion.
“To be honest, I wish people would stop doing that,” said the Chicago-area resident. “We haven’t clinched a thing. There are a number of other drivers still mathematically alive. Until the NHRA and POWERade hands out that big trophy, nothing has been decided.”

Lucas races for Richmond victory

(10-7-08) Richmond, VA -- Morgan Lucas still has many reasons to win at this weekend’s Virginia Nationals at Virginia Motorsports Park despite the verification, he’s not in the NHRA’s Playoff system -- the POWERade Countdown to 1. The primary reason is the reality he’s never won a NHRA pro event and a victory in the Old Dominion state would be phenomenal and finally end his 88-race winless streak.
“We’re definitely improving and moving ahead,” said Lucas, a five-time Top Fuel runner-up. “The information is being shared among both teams and the feedback we’re getting is benefitting both my and J.R.’s (Todd) car. We’re on an upswing and although it doesn’t matter as part of the championship, we still feel we can run with the best of them and we’re looking forward... [Read More]

Richmond revives Lucas Oil team

(10-7-08) Richmond, VA -- It’s just three races remaining on the NHRA calendar with this weekend’s running of the third annual Virginia Nationals and for someone like Lucas Oil Fuel Treatment Top Fuel driver, J.R. Todd, he sees it as an opportunity to win more races, just that simple. Being a bit a late bloomer in 2008, Todd, who isn’t in championship contention, still has all the drive to continue with strong performances as he did last month when he won in Dallas knocking out title-contenders, Hillary Will, Brandon Bernstein and Countdown leader , Tony Schumacher in the finals snapping his seven-race winning streak and 31-round string of victories.
“The car is starting to come around, although it’s a little too late,” said a determined Todd. “But,... [Read More]

Connolly’s Cagnazzi Cobalt to wear special Lucas Oil colors

(10-7-08) Richmond, VA -- Dave Connolly finds himself at the NHRA Pro Stock championship crossroads this weekend. The number of races remaining in the Countdown to the championship has dwindled to three while his rounds behind the leader stay the same.
“Now it’s going to take quite a feat for us to overcome five rounds in three races, but we’ve gone on streaks like that before,” said Connolly as he prepared for the Virginia Nationals at Virginia Motorsports Park in Dinwiddie, near Richmond. “We’ll just try to stick our Chevy Cobalt into as many winner’s circles as we can.”
Maybe a different look to that Cagnazzi Racing Cobalt will help.
As part of a new marketing alliance between Charter... [Read More]
