Round wins at Reading could boost Stanfield in Standings
NHRA’s Countdown to the Championship reaches its mid-point this weekend with the Auto-Plus NHRA Nationals near Reading, Pa., and Greg Stanfield is determined to continue his upward move in the Pro Stock standings.
He began the playoffs in eighth place and is now sixth (2,123 points) going into Maple Grove Raceway.
“We want to make the right decisions at this race and get back into the points race,” said the driver of the Nitro Fish/Coffman Tank Trucks GXP. “We struggled a little last weekend (at Dallas). We want to turn things around and go from there. The weather will be cooler and we’re looking forward to the race.”
Crew chief Eddie Guarnaccia wants to improve the team’s performance of last Sunday that ended in the quarterfinals.
“Greg and I have been exchanging ideas to see what we need to do to get things working better,” Guarnaccia said. “We hope they make sense and lead to round wins. We need to be more constructive and take advantage of Greg’s driving ability.”
Temperatures dipping into the high 50s are expected by Saturday – a definite contrast to the 90-degree days at Dallas last weekend. Qualifying begins Friday with a high of 68 degrees predicted.
“If it does get cold,” added Guarnaccia, “we could see record-setting performances.”
Think with yer dipstick, Jimmy!
