[coverattach=1]Buffalo, NY dragster driver wins overall, Grubb takes Top Sportsman side at the Grand Bend Motorplex

GRAND BEND, ONTARIO (June 28, 2009) – Once again the Top Dragsters took the top prize, this time in the second round of the Quick 32 Sportsman Series presented by NAPA Auto Parts at the Grand Bend Motorplex, in Grand Bend, Ontario.

Jim Rubino won the event in his Mike Bos R.E.D dragster, besting not only the Top Dragster contingent of the event, but winning the overall final in the Top Dragster versus Top Sportsman round. The Buffalo, New York racer cut a good light with a 0.017-second reaction time on his way to a 6.997-second , 190.15-mph win over the 2004 Chevrolet Cavalier of Darren Grubb of Kincardine, Ontario, who ran a 7.631-second, 179.17-mph pass.

In the Top Dragster final, Rubino eliminated Jamie Bridge of Napanee, Ontario, who red-lighted with his Undercover dragster, while Grubb got by the 1941 Willys of Gerry Hishon of Sebringville, Ontario.

On the Top Dragster side of the event, there were 15 cars, while 16 cars qualified for the Top Sportsman ladder. Top qualifier Michael Hinbest of Orangeville, Ontario couldn’t make eliminations in dragster competition, and Top Sportsman driver Scott Wildgust of Wartburg, Ontario, was also a first round victim in his 1957 Chevy.

With his win on the Top Sportsman side, Grubb is now second in the standings after two events with 451 points, while T.J. Schippling of Shakespeare, Ontario, who won the opening round in his dragster, leads the chase with 473 points.

Dodge Stratus driver Kevin Wicke of Stratford, Ontario, is third with 438 points, fourth is Bridge with 435 points, and fifth is dragster driver Spencer Hyde of Stratford with 419 points.
