50th Anniversery March Meet AAFD Media release

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

All American Fuel Dragsters Ready for March Meet

Grants Pass, OR (Feb 26, 2008) In 10 days the air over the Auto Club Famoso Raceway in Bakersfield, California will be permeated with the unmistakable aroma of nitromethane. Over 500 racers and thousands of fans will flock to the 50th anniversary of the event now known as the March Meet. Leading the way will be the Kings of the Sport - Top Fuel dragsters. With 25 of the most extreme cars in drag racing pre-entered, the qualifying sessions on Friday and Saturday promise to be a great show in themselves. The 16 car field in eliminations on Sunday will feature the best of the breed, all shooting for the coveted March Meet trophy and bragging rights of winning the biggest race of the year.

Leading the list of favorites is Brad Thompson from nearby Visalia. Thompson served notice that he plans to pick up where he left off last year (he won the 2007 California Hot Rod Reunion) by carding the quickest pass in the history of the class (5.63) during the 2008 NHRA Winternationals at Pomona. Brad commented, "The run at Pomona didn't feel that good and we had more to throw at it. All things being equal, we should be able to better that time at the March Meet."

On Thompson's tail will be four time March Meet champion, Jim Murphy, two time winner, Jack Harris and a host of other contenders capable of running the big numbers including Adam Sorokin, Rick White and Troy Green. In the off-season a lot of fresh parts went into the team trailers and some made huge engine/tuning changes - like Murphy who stated, “We are in the process of building a new car but it won't be done in time for the March Meet. However, our new fuel injector will be in place and we are expecting near instant performance results.”

Besides being its 50th Anniversary, the 2008 March Meet is also the inaugural race of the NHRA seven event Hot Rod Heritage Series. Getting off to a good start here will set the pace for the remainder of the points races leading the the 2008 Top Fuel Championship. High stakes indeed.

All the drivers and crews comprising the All American Fuel Dragsters invite their fans to drop by the pits - which are always open - to get autographs, ask questions or just watch the workings of a Top Fuel team. The 50th March Meet promises to be a classic so don't miss 25 Top Fuel dragsters and much more on March 7 – 9, 2008. We'll see you there.
