Re: Hight's Fire
I agree with what Mike Dunn said on the coverage. "What other form of motorsports allows you to roll out a spare on raceday?" None.
Force got a little too over the top in his interview. One of the first Force interviews and opinions I don't like.

Re: Hight's Fire
They even showed footage on our local 11pn news in Detroit.
I would have liked to have seen the full run from behind to see how the hell Scott missed him. With all that smoke he had no idea where to go. Also when Robert went in front of him Scotts chutes still were not out yet. Great driving job by Scott.
Glad Robert is ok

I agree with Mike 100%. I was all for the "Eddie Hill Rule" but after eliminations start, that's a different story. John also stated that it might not be fair to the lower budget teams at the end of the statement. I never thought that they would actually run the car but just try to stage it and see if they got lucky. Same thing that they did with Eric at the Finals in 05.

Re: Hight's Fire
It appeared that the fire ext system didn't work. I hope they look at what happened here. This may have saved the car. Even Dune mentioned the fact that the system didn't appear to fire.

Seems to me I remember them talking to Jimmy while they were cleaning up from the first spill, and he said that's exactly what was happening, that they never really intended to pull a full run out of the car. They were just going to see what happened and perhaps take advantage if Head messed up.
Kudos to Jim Head by the way. He waited for a long time while the AAA team got things under control. He showed a lot of patience and class, I think.

Re: Hight's Fire
The only thing that concerns me with not changing chassis is what about the team that says " I can drive it even if it is bent" then goes out trying to be heroes and gets hurt!
I agree with the rule but also worry at the same time, maybe the HRA's need to send someone to look at the chassis and say ya or na it is safe to run.
.02 cents worth!

I liked his comment about "not going back down there." That had to be one scary ride, I seem to pull more and more for that guy every race.

Re: Hight's Fire
In most other forms of racing you are not even allowed to change engines. Can you imagine that rule in drag racing? And don't the cars have to go through tech inspection at each race before they can run? Imagine the "trick" parts that could show up on a spare car.

Re: Hight's Fire
leave things the way they are and nobody gets hurt! It is ridiculous to think that you could be allowed to pull out a new chassis. That just hacks away at the lesser funded teams and makes it an un-even playing field!

I'm just glad Robert got out of it unharmed and safe...that must have been a crazy ride!! And tons of props to everyone who busted a hump to get him back up to the line after the fire...that was very impressive!!

One of the worst fires I have seen in a while.
Had me holding my breath there for a while, man was I relieved to see him climbing out the roof.

Same here. That was as bad as I've seen in some time, and reminded me of the types of F/C fires that forced some people to switch to diggers, (Shirley) and others to outright retire entirely. (Gay, I remember Don Prudhomme tearing through the damaged, still burning bodywork to help get him out.) I was half expecting Robert to do a swan dive off the top before it stopped.
