Re: Schedule Expansion

Before adding to the schedule they should settle on an agreement on a purse increase to offset the additional cost since most teams budgets are set for a 23 race schedule.
I'm sure teams will need to get the sponsors to increase their budgets to reflect the editional races.
Suzie has a good point on the passport issue.

Mexico City is also located at approximately 7500 ft above sea level. Now we're all aware of the changes made to the tune-ups for the nitro cars and the lack of performance for the carbureted cars, and bikes at Bandimere and that's only at 5,800 ft. Maybe the NHRA could reconsider the 85% rule, and allow 100% nitro in a situation like this.

Re: Schedule Expansion

Back in the mid 90's Div-4 ran a race in Monterrey, Mex. And the racers I talked to (Joe Penland) said it was hell getting in and out of the Country! I heard of racers being forced to EMPTY their entire trailers! I think most racers might put up with that.....Once!!!!

Re: Schedule Expansion

It's nice to say they want to expand, but where are the tracks going to come from to host these additional events? Aside from Banning are there any other new tracks being built? I can't see them giving existing tracks additional races although I would very much like to see the return of the fall race in Chicago. I know it's wishful thinking though.

On several occasions, the boys had trouble getting BACK into their own country. I doubt any of them would be thrilled to have to go back to Canada any time soon.
If you think getting back into the US from Canada could be tough, try getting a nice rig full of race cars/parts/engines/etc. back into the US from Mexico. CIFCA had a race just across the border into Mexico about three years ago and getting in was a breeze. Getting out almost imprisoned a couple of our teams in Mexican jails since they refused to leave their rigs behind as ordered by the Federalis.

LOL! I bet Grubby has one!!!

And was stated already; it is much, much harder getting into to US than into Canada & Mexico.
Besides the DUI/DWI, ANY felony will pretty much make it unlikely that a person will get the OK to cross into OR out of Canada.

Re: Schedule Expansion

Canada also used to make you do a COMPLETE inventory list of everything in the trailer. That meant that if you used up tired, burned pistons, broke parts, they had to be loaded back in the trailer and brought back home, so everything was accounted for. You also wouldn't want to BUY any new parts at the track in Canada. They would want you to pay customs on it. Sounds like a major can of worms to me. Not even close to worth the agrivation.

Re: Schedule Expansion

The french Canadians are a bunch a thieves? I hope there isn't many lurking this site, that comment will spark a sh*t storm, being the persecuted lot that they are....

I seriously don't get the attitude about crossing the border. IHRA does it for three races. The NHRA professionals can't handle it?

One possibility that jumps out at me is Calgary. They have a decent track that has fallen into disrepair but with new ownership they're currently making improvements with the purpose of landing an IHRA national event. With Edmonton having the IHRA event that they do and doing quite well with it. A CART race as well, I could see Calgary wanting to one up Edmonton and go hard trying to secure an NHRA event. The two cities have quite the rivarly.

It would be a resounding success there as well. I hope for the sake of IHRA that they beat NHRA to the punch in that market.

Sorry maters, I'm a big IHRA fan for the work they've done in Canada, not meant as a dig to NHRA. If NHRA went there, I'd be there in a heartbeat.

Re: Schedule Expansion

I'm originally from British Columbia but I have lots of relatives in Calgary, if the NHRA had an event in Western Canada, I might have to find a reason to make a trip up to Canada and see my relatives; with the Rockies being so close to Calgary, an NHRA event there would make for a great vacation.

Re: Schedule Expansion

Wow, what a lot of disinformation here.

First you do NOT need a passport to get across the border by land, only when arriving by air and that is thanks to Dubya and nothing to do with Canada.

Next , leaded gas is very, very commonly used in racing here and is sold at most Canadian tracks. That information was an old proposal that never happened.

Next, racers come here with loaded rigs all the time to Divisional races and most have no problems at all. Don't bring a gun or dope or leave them at the US-side Customs to pick up when you exit. You are supposed to have an inventory but this is rarely checked or enforced.

It is usually far more of a hassle to get into the US than Canada and i hear that mostly from Americans.

Only one area of Canada speaks French, Quebec, nowhere else. There are far more Spanish speaking places in the US that French speaking places in Canada. Most of the old Sanair stories i hear involve topless women and not theft, but maybe i'm too sheltered.

Will I need a passport for the drags?

According to CompPlus I will.

Torco Racing Fuel's Competition Plus.com - Drag Racing's Internet Magazine - NHRA SCHEDULE EXPANSION

I hope they have tequilla in the pitts.

Based on Problems several racers have experienced getting back to the U.S. via the Mexican Border I see major problems with such a race.

Unless you have TB...Then you can cruise right in...

Come back through Nogales/ Arizona- with a thousand undocumenteds a DAY coming through that port, I doubt they'll see a Pete and a 75' trailer...

I gotta a million of em folks...

Seriously- find a good broker and pay the $$$ and the trip in and out will be painless.. I truck/fly tons of band gear a year in and out of there every year.

If that gets solved RE an NHRA National event in Mexico, the coyotes will start painting rigs to look like race car haulers and increase business.
