You may not...if they were hired by Bruton, he may not be directly connected to them.

Re: NHRA Sold

Bruton is not in on this deal in any significant way as far as I can tell. It's possible he's a large stock owner in HDP but it's unlikely. The guys doing this are the guys that started DirectTV and cashed out from that deal.

It's going to be a while before anyone fully realizes the impact this will have on our sport, but you can bet next season is going to be pretty interesting.

These guys certainly have access to a lot of doors that were previously closed to NHRA, not to mention the money to do something about it.

Cool Re: NHRA Sold

I just renewed my NHRA membership for $64. That'll buy me about 8 shares of HDP. Maybe I'll end up getting paid to be a drag racing fan.

Now, that is a possibility. But, that would imply that HDP's intent is to "flip" businesses rather than to buy and operate them?

Re: NHRA Sold

Well from what I can gather, we didnt get rid of NHRA mgmt. They apparently split the pro's and sportsmans categorys. The pro's and the show go to HD and the NHRA still makes the rules and such and govern's the sportsman categorys. Tom Compton is now on NHRA Pro Racing's CEO and board. Who knows how all this will work out. ITs on NHRA.COM finally.

Cool Re: NHRA Sold

No inside information just a hunch. Sportsmen racing will no longer be part of the "Professional" national events. They'll be run as a separate series like Busch and Craftsmen trucks. That'll make it easier for live TV. I don't like, I'm not trying to sell it but that what I think.

Because none of the present management would have had a place in the Bruton Smith NHRA!!!

Re: NHRA Sold

Wally said he is going to take care of the sportsmans..

NHRA will continue to be the premier sanctioning authority for drag racing. Additionally, we can now focus more directly on the sportsman and amateur levels of our sport. We are clearly in our best position ever to preserve, protect and promote all facets of drag racing, from the grassroots level on up. The financial resources we are receiving in this transaction assure us a lifetime of security and growth.

Re: NHRA Sold

That's a mouthful if it's really Wally speaking. Parks has never had any great love of 'Professional' drag racing. He saw the demise of the sport the first time they had to pay money to the Top Eliminator instead of crate engines and other racing parts. After all Wally came from a salt back groud and this might actually BE good for the Sportsman. Let's wait until this is approved AND they announce the structure for 2008.

I really hope that doesn't happen. I agree with John that the pit access is one of the best things for a fan. The is especially evident bringing a new fan too.
I would like NHRA to be more mainstream, but I don't know if we are going to all be happy with the results of that. Do we (fans) want to be as big as NASCAR? We will see how all this pans out I guess.

I agree with you, I think this will be a good thing for the sportsman racers. I think these series are going to be run by people who actually care about sportsman racers and less about the bottom line. The only problem that I see is that the divide might grow greater trying to get from the sportsman ranks to the pro ranks.
