Re: NHRA Sold
Anyone notice that it appears to be business as usual for the Sportsman racers? Maybe that's where the 121 goes for series improvements? I sure hope that was an eclipse and not the sun burning out. Dark day? I've got NOT a clue. More info to follow...I hope.

I am curious to see what the impact on the Sportsman categories is.

I think in this case Bruton may be Obi Wan.

Re: NHRA Sold
So, will the Sportsman racers see part of that $121,000,000 in an increase in payouts? Since we are staying under Glendora's rule.

Re: NHRA Sold
Just did a quick run-down on HD Partners. Looks like the former chairman and CEO of DirectTV formed the "blank check company" about a year ago. At that time, they sold about $150 million in IPO stock offering. Can't see that they've done a thing with the pot of money until now, basically been sitting on it waiting for the "right" acquisition.
On the plus side, they seem to be entertainment oriented. It will be very interesting to see what their plans are for NHRA!
I'm thinking that there are a handful of new millionaires in Glendora today.

HD Partners is a purchasing entity. I wouldn't bet against Bruton Smith or another entity being behind the actual transaction.

Re: NHRA Sold
As a long retired Sportsman racer, I think we still fall under the "non-profit" status (no profit for us).

Re: NHRA Sold
As much as Jeff Burk and Others loathed NHRA because of it's so called "Corporate approach" to the sport of Drag racing. How much more corporate can NHRA get now??? I'm wondering if IRP will finally get an upgrade???

Bruton would be ideal. I think he would probably be the best thing to happen to NHRA. Just look at the facilities that he owns, all 110% class acts, and he is not scared to spend a little money.

Bruton had built some awesome facilities, but I'm not convinced he's a Drag racing fan. Bruton's in the business of making $$$, and how this all will impact this sport is anyone's guess! I'm thinking(?) that restrictive Pit access might be just around the corner! Liability is one thing any Corporation won't chance anything on!

Re: NHRA Sold
Hey Ray, with any luck it is as Bobby says and Bruton is behind the deal. That is best case scenario, without knowing more about this company.

I hope not, that is one of the cool things that seperates us from CRAPCAR and the other forms of racing.

Looking at the top institutional holders in HD Partners, I can't find any connection back to Bruton Smith? HDP: Major Holders for HD PARTNERS ACQUISIT - Yahoo! Finance
