Bad news from Mission Raceway Park

I don't normally race there but I was reading an article on horsepowerheaven.com this morning and it turns out that all the rain we've been having in the northwest has caused part of the ground in the pits and track to give in. It looks like there won't be any racing there for a while.

It IS April first remember.

Something's fishy about those photos. The fact that a helicopter shot was taken since this happened "last night" and already posted seems a bit strange as it's barely light up in Mission right now.
Also the group of people and kids walking toward the hole (in stride) and seemingly oblivious to the fact they are mere feet from the abyss strikes me as weird.

Still cool though.

Re: Bad news from Mission Raceway Park

Wow that really sucks. I love racing there but we stopped going because of constant rainouts and the boarder problems.

I kept lobbying for the Points meet move to July or August but they wanted to give the Super Stockers the best possible air in May. Well, that's fine but nobody gets down a wet track. They could have flipped the national open for that weekend and still have national record runs for SS and move the points meet to July or August when there's few races (ODDLY ENOUGH) and drier weather but they didn't want to do that either. To make matters worse now you need a passport.

I'm a BIG fan of that track but I got fed up with the rainouts.

Mission Raceway Park is the nearest track to where I live. But having just checked the calendar, I'm not going to sweat it.

Rich, like you, I wish they'd move the Mission LODRS event to July or August. It's ridiculous that they hold that race in May. But this year they at least moved the race date to the end of the month. I have little faith that will help much, though.

I`m with you , Brian.
One word: Photoshop. Go here: Horsepower Heaven April Fool 2007
I don`t see the usual NHRA.com April fools prank anywhere on the site.
Maybe the recent mood has made them decide not do some bizarre "news report" this year.

Re: Bad news from Mission Raceway Park

Oh yeah, it is April 1! That's a photoshop job if I ever saw one!

Regardless, of moving the date it's still in May. We have the craziest NHRA divisional schedule as there's one race after another from April to the first week of July and then there's nothing the rest of the year unless you go over to Montana which is half way to Omaha from here.

You don't need a passport to drive across the border. But you do to fly back into the US. You can blame Bush for that. If you are flying, Bellingham WA is quite close to Mission and you can fly there and drive across.

I kinda liked it better in early May then late May like it is this year, it won't be as good air.

The National Open is always good. Warm weather slows the cars a bit but the bikinis make up for that.

By the way there actually is an underground stream under the track.

I'd be more inclined to blame the terrorists for the hassle crossing the border.
Blame Bush for the ease of crossing the southern border and I will agree.
Ah mother nature you gotta love her!
