Drag Racing Everyday on TV??
NHRA.com reports that for the next two months, that they are going to run 40 one hour shows... Starting Feb.5 on ESPN CLASSIC at 11 a.m. (est)... Starting with the 95 Mile-High Nationals, and going until the Finals of the exciting 06 season... You can bet, they will not be every race from every year, with only 40 shows, but it's a start... And it should be fun to see the faces of yesterday... And some that have sense moved on, or left us... Anyone watch ESPN anything anyway?? Except for the DRAGS!!
UPDATE!- They have a listing of the scheduled shows, day by day...

Re: Drag Racing Everyday on TV??
I think it will be cool, although I wish they could go farther back than the mid 90s, but I think that that may be the Diamond P era. Either way, it's more drag racing on TV.

Big Mac,
Did you and Mr. E do any of these upcoming shows??
Who did the announcing from 95-99??? That is what time frame most of the shows are from...
Additional Note! Blaine Johnson's last win at Sonoma is on Feb.23 Just FYI...

Re: Drag Racing Everyday on TV??
Funny you mention this, I stumbled across it the other night by accident.
I upgraded my TiVO hard drives myself and were resetting all of my season passes. When I got to Drag Racing, I saw that there was a 1995 event scheduled soon, so I clicked on t.
I thought it might have been an error but set it to record anyway. I better double check it tonight to make sure it will grab them all!

What type of DVR do you have?
I went from an 80Gb drive (est 80 hours) to two Hard Drives 200Gb + 160 Gb for an estimated total recording time of 322 hours.
Got the HDD's on special, for a total of $50, plus $10 in bits and peices, $20 for software to image the new drives and about 2-3 hours of my time.
I have a Samsung Series 2 TiVO SIR-4080R.

Re: Drag Racing Everyday on TV??
It's great that they are airing drag racing, but I already have everthing from 95 to present,I guess I would be asking too much to have them air races from the 70's that were shown on wide world of sports.

hmmm - Denver 95..... couldn't of picked a better race! My favorite Funny Car Driver....Scott Kalitta.... was then driving the AIA rail.... with Dick LaHaie tuning. They won that race and every race thereafter for the rest of the year! Great memories!!!

Re: Drag Racing Everyday on TV??
Hi all,
Boy, this has been a puzzler....too long ago and too many shows. I do not think that Steve E. was involved with the ESPN shows during the time frame the schedule indicates will be used. He was doing the TNN shows...while I did the ESPN work. The two networks carried the race programs at that time.
As far as folks in the field...I think it was mostly Bill S. and possibly David Reiff with maybe Alan in some of them.
Color commentators were limited, as best my memory serves me, in 1995. I want to say Shelly was involved in possibly 99 and 2000. It was at the end of the '00 season that I stepped back from the TV work as travel was taking it's toll with only about 14 races...and the new contract for ESPN called for all of the events to be on that network.
My first show for NHRA was 1970-71...Ontario then Dallas...some work on a local show in Columbus when the Springnationals moved there...then the series started with the Gatornationals in 1973. Diamond P became the production company at the start of the '76 season.
Was quite a ride and a lot of fun. Shame the memories get so jumbled...but it was a lot of TV shows and even more races.
Take care all...stay well and race safe.
