As far as folks in the field...I think it was mostly Bill S. and possibly David Reiff with maybe Alan in some of them.
Color commentators were limited, as best my memory serves me, in 1995. I want to say Shelly was involved in possibly 99 and 2000. It was at the end of the '00 season that I stepped back from the TV work as travel was taking it's toll with only about 14 races...and the new contract for ESPN called for all of the events to be on that network.
My first show for NHRA was 1970-71...Ontario then Dallas...some work on a local show in Columbus when the Springnationals moved there...then the series started with the Gatornationals in 1973. Diamond P became the production company at the start of the '76 season.
Was quite a ride and a lot of fun. Shame the memories get so jumbled...but it was a lot of TV shows and even more races.
Take care all...stay well and race safe.

Dave,
While I know you are here on the Mater I would just like to say thanks for all of the work you have done over the years.
All the way over in Australia I grew up listening to you and Steve over and over again on the few NHRA races I had on VHS.
In my book you and Steve are the "voices of Drag Racing" and will be forever!
Regards,
Paul Rogers Jr

Yes Dave, you have served the sport well and it was a pleasure meeting you on a couple of occassions. Dave, you have been great for the sport and helped shape it in to what it is today! I know everyone on this board truly appreciates your TV work and your announcing at the track.
It's always a kick when you are watching a movie like "Heart Like a Wheel" and to hear your voice in it. I think there was a Pan Am ad or something in that movie and I recognized your voice. I also enjoyed the interview you did a couple of months ago on dragracingonline.com

This should bring back some memories. I set my DVR this morning. I can't tell you the last time I popped in one of my old Diamond P year in drag racing videos.

Re: Drag Racing Everyday on TV??
I'm glad to see that the 1995 Northwest Nationals will be aired. We (Chuck Beal Racing) went to the semi-finals that year where Al Hoffman took us out. Steve Evans interviewed Chuck after we won second round, (An interview that we still give Chuck a hard time about).
After that pass, Dave McClelland explained to the fans that we were a new (volunteer) team with a new racecar on a very small budget but we were going rounds. Just our third race and we were in the semi-finals. The crowd roared, quite a feeling standing on that starting line.
I've never met Dave, but I always wanted to thank him for that.
This is also the race that Ron Capps took out Cory Mac for the win in the Roger Primm Top Fueler.

Re: Drag Racing Everyday on TV??
Paul, Rich, Steve and all,
Many, many thanks for the compliments and the memories. I have often said I had the perfect job, one that allowed me to provide for my family and for this time in my life....doing something that I had done for fun.
It was a remarkable time in the sport, the era from the late 50's to the late 80's...but then again...this time is rather remarkable in its own way.
Never ceased to be amazed at the skills of those who prepare, drive and fund today's cars.
Looking forward to seeing some of the old shows so I can throw bricks at my tv set, shouting at it as to "Why did I say that!!!"
Thanks again.

Ray,
Thanks for the heads up and I wish I had come on the 'Mater before searching NHRA.COM for the info as it would have been much faster. That bulletin or News had already rotated off into the January archives when I went looking for it this morning, and I found it but took me 5 min. and would have been quicker to come to Nitromater. I was pretty sure my cable provider carried ESPN Classic, but had no idea what channel it was, just knew it was something in the higher number Digital Only channels, and found it on Channel 129. Luckily was able to configure my DVR to record ch. 129 so tonight I hope I can watch the show if all went as planned.
