I think in a normal season, the champions would of been different. This year all of the current races were really tight. Normally there is a runaway winner in one of the categories. The Beckman/Bazemore combo just missed getting in the final 4 by 40 points. They were the best funny car the final 2 races of the season.

Just a question... Does this scenario of a "points chase" go back to the first cut from 16 to 8? With Tony's disappointing begining to the season was he in the top 8 for the cut? Just asking... Thanks

At the start of the "chase", Tony was in 2nd place, 136 points behind Kalitta.

Schumacher really began to make his move during the western swing. Before Denver he was in 6th place, 250 behind Troxel. After Sonoma he was in 3rd, 126 points back of Kalitta.
