I haven't been a fan of Page's announcing ability, and yes, I would rather see someone else in the booth...
But drag racing is still drag racing regardless of the announcer.
Now the points system - that's a twist on things. It has a real effect on the outcome, unlike who is telling you what the points are.

We need to save this thread so that in 3 years when/if Page is still announcing and get's replaced with another crappy person and people complain and want to keep him, we can point in everyones face.

Who does like Page? Exactly.
I don't even really want to give him a chance, but I don't have a choice.

Yeah, I don't want him and didn't really like the job he did... BUT... I will watch anyway and learn to deal with it. I bet he will be better next year. He is a pro and just struggled with a new job.

I don't dislike him. I just find it hard to believe they did not ask your opinion before they put him into this position.

Maybe that's ESPN's way of telling you they don't give a rat's ass what you and some of these other guys think.

Exactly, Drag racing is the ******* stepchild that they (espn) has but don't really know what to do with.
espn will have who they want, and put the show on when they want, And will pre-empt it any time something is running long.

How do we get that changed Robert? I don't think we can. I think NHRA has to do something about it to broaden the TV market.

Correction - they don't care what anyone thinks.
If they did - they would have surely at least consulted NHRA...or Mike Dunn.

That's what I meant.

Although some of us don't care and we know with Paul's credentials he'll get much better.

Paul Page - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
I've never doubted Page's credentials. But when he was mispronouncing names and showing a total lack of understanding of what was happening he lost my respect.

I can't believe a professional went into a job cold without any research or groundwork. Sorry, but a person who makes his living this way isn't entitled to any on the job training. A racer who's put into the position of color annoucer does.

It's an insult to the audience that Page seemed to care so little about the job that he didn't make the effort to prepare.

Can you imagine Dave McClelland working a gig and not knowing how to pronounce the names of the principals? Or not making notes and getting prepped? I certainly can't, and that's why he is a consumate professional.

It's only my opinion, but it seems to me that Page is on a contract and isn't happy with being placed in a position he considers below his talent. As far as I'm concerned, he's just phoning it in.

I actually watched several races on mute this year or in fast foward when he was in the booth.

Anyway if he's in the booth chasing tv viewers away, the ratings go done we can blame the new points system and in 2008 order will be restored.

hey I can dream can't I
Kinda like being a conservative hoping Republicans get spanked so that they'll do something the next time. We'll see if it works for either of them.

Ron, you certainly have a great way of summing things up in the most creative ways! Well done! Haven't had a chance to talk to you lately on the College football thread in the lounge.
