No offense to Paul P. but he really needs to stick with a sport he is more familiar with. I really expected him to get better at it as the season went along but it didn't happen. It almost seemed to get worse. If he really enjoyed doing this for drag racing he would have immersed himself in it and showed improvement through increased general knowledge of the sport. I would imagine he didn't get out of the "booth" much. As I said, it didn't seem to happen. Somebody from ESPN has GOT to be reading these comments. Pass them around.

I'll make this very simple for ESPN/NHRA. If Paul Page is on the TV shows, we won't be tuning in.
With all the talent in the drag racing industry (former racers, track annoucers, even former TV personalities) that have the skills to do the TV job, WHY must we be subjected to a couple of guys (Paul and Marty) that come from sissy racing and don't have a clue? People like Bob Frey, Alan Reinhart, Lynn Nickerson, Frank Hawley, Cameron Evans, Jason Baffery, etc. If it's about money I'll do it for $60K/year plus benefits!!!!!! |

Don't bash Marty. I think he is a great announcer.

This just shows how NHRA rates at ESPN/ABC/Disney compared to INDY CAR racing, the wine and cheese crowd complained about Pauls never ending miscues and got him swapped for Marty. The beer and chips crowd (NHRA) don't rate high enough in the wall street world to get what they want. They know that drag racers will stay up to midnight to watch same day coverage, even if it's 30 to 45 minutes late, so why not give us who they want, and not who we want. Marty and Mike have such a nice smooth flow to there broadcast, but I think thats because Marty really does love the sport, and for Paul it's just another job.

This is crazy.
So people are NOT going to watch because of who is announcing!?? Pfft..I'm in and don't give a rat's ass who's talking. I can bypass all that sh!t for the racing.

Ya know I'm thinking this may not be bad move. Now wait here me out. I don't like his announcing on drag racing either. But since NHRA is already runining our sport with the fake chase for the cup next year. NHRA hopes that will boost ratings, with Page in the announcers chair that just can't happen. I actually watched several races on mute this year or in fast foward when he was in the booth.
Anyway if he's in the booth chasing tv viewers away, the ratings go done we can blame the new points system and in 2008 order will be restored. hey I can dream can't I
