Gilbertson returns to NHRA racing for rest of the season.
GILBERTSON RETURNS TO NHRA TOUR AT RICHMOND
Virginia, prerace: - Funny Car racer Bob Gilbertson is looking forward to returning to the NHRA tour this weekend at the Inaugural Torco Racing Fuels Nationals at Virginia Motorsports Park near Richmond. Gilbertson missed the past two NHRA events (Reading and Dallas) due to conflicting races but will compete at the remaining races on the NHRA schedule. "Richmond will be a big race for us," Gilbertson said. "Being that it's close to our home base in Charlotte I'm going to have a lot of family, friends and employees who will be attending and I want to do well for them. Our recent performance the past two weeks proved that we're on the right track and we're looking to qualify well and be a spoiler in the points chase." Gilbertson ran his career best elapsed time this past weekend, a 4.762 and his co-crew chiefs Nicky Boninfante Jr. and Tubby Delogo are confident that they can improve on that in Virginia. "Our tune-up is really 'happy' right now," Boninfante added. "We're running good numbers, not hurting any parts and we're confident that we can give Bob a car that he can qualify well and win with if the breaks come our way." Glad to see Bob & Company will be back, missed the team at Reading, sure hope the rain holds off.
