The first thing I thought when I read about "Big O" was that I'm surprised they haven't sued the real "O"

Then I read the article and found out they did that too.

What a crock.

I may be wrong, but I don't remember them winning.

They actually operated under the name for a short time before Lee sued them for an injunction. As I remember, the network had so much money invested in station breaks, branding, commercials, etc. that they settled with Lee for a considerable amount of money.

Yes, it was a total crock. I only have this memory because at the time I thought how unjust the whole thing was.

A variant of what Big O is trying here is not unknown in the tech world. There are actually companies whose entire income is derived from patent and trademark lawsuits. They produce nothing but court briefs, and sue on the most flimsy case.

It's not like Richard is on the same financial level of Joe's Local Speed shop, but when compared to Sumitomon he's just an ant to be squashed after his pockets are emptied.

Do ants even have pockets?

Regardless, as all the others have mentioned this is a travesty.

Sent an email to "Big O" and reminded them that there are thousands of NHRA members and fans who might not be using their products if this lawsuit continues.

I urge everybody on the Mater to do the same......never hurts to be heard.

Drag Racers & Drag Race fans will never confuse "Big O" tires for "Big M " heads & blocks. But racers & fans all buy tires. If these guys don't stop with their dumb law suit, all racers & fans should stop patronizing Big O tire stores! Hit these guys in their bottom line w/ an effective boycott!

I hate to see this for Baca & Windham Motorsports, but totally agree. This just doesn't make sense from a business perspective.

"Big O Tires, Inc. filed it's opposition of the Dart's application to register in January, 2003, stating in it's notice to oppose the trademark that it believed it would be damaged by the registration of the 'Big M' trademark, citing likelihood of confusion."

Hey, they may have a point. I can't tell you how many times I've gone out to buy a set of tires and came back with a block and set of heads due to this!

If this could confuse anyone, then surely Playboy and Playgirl must be owned by the same company? LOL. Don't send anyone from Big O Tires out to buy either one for you! Send a link for this thread to them!

Uh-oh...

Damn...I hope NASCAR doesn't have the words "Pit Stop" trademarked. I don't have deep pockets.

Have at it! I'll gladly stand behind what I speak in public or private. I just hope it awakens someone at the corporate level as to the public's opinion of their inner workings?

Sorry guys. None of this will do any good. Go back and read my post again. I'm in complete agreement that this sucks. But you need to check out my link to Sumitomo corp, and realize that the people who are making these decisions don't give a rat's patoot about the average small business man. AND, they are big enough that any boycott generated by this thread will not affect their bottom line in the least. Not a bit. Wouldn't even be a blip. In fact, they really don't give a you-know-what about what you think of them. Why should they?

As I said, welcome to the world of big business.

You could be right but they also said dumping tea in the harbor wouldn't amount to a hill of beans?
