No kidding.

I'm sure the people would not notice what the scoreboard says also.

Me either, but if it's The Snake, you know, the same guy that once said "There are two kinds of people at the track, those making the car go faster, and PEOPLE IN THE WAY", I'd believe anything.

While dropping the names of all his NASCAR friends, Don said that fans would never notice the difference in 1320' and 1000' racing if "WE" hadn't told them.

This is certainly not the first arrogant statement he has made -

I was a little offended by that remark too, but when I heard Dunn say that the reason Tony Shoe was beaten by Kyle Bush in the street car race was because AJ wasn't tuning for him then, I had to laugh.

It's bad enough they are running 1000 feet on tracks fully capable of handling a quarter mile (Seattle, Motorplex and Vegas just to name a few) but do they have to keep saying the fans wouldn't notice the difference. Does Snake think the fans are dumb enough to think that dragsters are covering the quarter mile in less than 4 seconds. He doesn't think we'd notice if the cars are shutting off one football field earlier than they normally do. I've seen 1000 feet in person and to me it sticks out even more than it does on TV. Although the countdown tried last year to zap my interest in the end of the season, 1000 feet has done the job. At least it's less than a month until the NHL starts, where at least they still play a 60 minute game.

I'm not defending Snake for this! That said, wasn't he one of the first to damn the 1000' decision? And if I remember right, he was particularily vocal about that too. Could it be that someone(PR) told him not to be so openly against it and now he just went waaayyy off the other end? Could just be one of those PR nightmare scenarios. I just can't imagine how his opinion could change so drastically.

Maybe on TV! Every race I've been to since is sooooo obviously shorter. This also includes the fire show at Norwalk. This is from my perspective of 1/8 mile on. That's where I watch from. On TV it does seem harder to tell. My buddy said he didn't seem to notice when sitting at the starting line though. Maybe Snake needs to go sit in the grandstands at the 660 or so, THEN see if HE thinks there is no difference.

I've seen about 15 minutes of coverage total since Norwalk. It's amazing I even had it on , but I 'm sure glad I heard that comment.

The thing that gets me about it is he was obviously trying to get this comment in

They asked him about shutdown areas, they were showing pictures of the shutdown area at this track , and he answered with something about the money he's saving on parts breakage because of not running the last 300 feet.

??????????????????

Then he made his arrogant comment about us not noticing the difference.
Whatever Don. I 've loved you as a racer since I was 10 years old, but this was a kick in the teeth.

And it seems to me to be evidence that they are not changing back.

maybe, for the first few runs but after watching the 1/4 mile 30 plus years i would have noticed. the track being shortened by about 1 quarter of its original length is a lot to me. 1/4 is very large fraction in my book
