WJ ticked off......
.......yup he's ticked off, but he really can't blame the "stupid countdown stuff" for cutting a late light and losing.

I didn't see him crying or throw his gloves at the in-car camera, however? Point is, it's probably not the smartest thing to stick your mic in the face of someone who is a true competitor. Lots of racers are just glad to be in the big game while others expect themselves to win every race.

I don't think WJ is a big fan of the Countdown even though it would be to his advantage. He's being brutally honest about his RT isn't he?

Re: WJ ticked off......
One thing you can count on when there is a mic in front of the old man...you aren't going to get some watered down version. You get that is on his mind at the time.... good times or bad like today.
I don't give a **** how people try to make comments about his age..point is how many others have as many round/event wins as that guy? Older people are just jealous they haven't accomplished what he has done and younger are wanting to be in his spot in life when they are his age lol

That's the same thing I thought when he said that. I can't believe the pressure of making the countdown is getting to him, he been in that situation many times before and thrived.

Only thing wrong with that statement is, before the countdown, YOU still could make up some serious ground. Now, if ya ain't locked in, you could knock off 2-3 victory's and won't matter in the final standings

But before there were fewer races, so there's little difference. What the countdown has done has made two seasons: an 18 race regular season, and a six race post-season. His complaining is just like some guy complaining during race 20 of the old 23 race season that "championships are for suckers".
At the risk of PJ kicking me from here to Milan, I kinda like the added adrenaline the countdown brings. It adds pressure to the middle of the season and it prevents people from locking up championships by Labor Day. But I do think having all the other teams still compete is weird. The idea someone had about making it 8 teams and having two sides to the ladder is kind of interesting. May need more baking for that idea to make a real treat, but it's an interesting idea.

grrrrrrrrrrrr
actually as much as I hate the countdown, I've been pushing for them to at least have a real playoff if they insist on keeping it. Put the 8 playoff teams on one side and then 8 non playoff teams can compete on the other. ideally there would be less diving. People would win championships by actually having to beat other playoff cars (unlike last year)

I fully agree. Imagine what the post season would be like in football or baseball if they did it the way NHRA does. How silly! And as you note, it lets multi-car teams play all kinds of games during the playoffs.
I understand the need for the other teams to get their sponsor time and practice runs, and so on, but this way is so stupid. How about we take your idea a little further? At each race, have the "final" be the countdown team vs. the "consolation team", and give the consolation team an extra 10 points if they win (over and above the round win), just 'cause. Give the winner of the "consolation series" (all the non-countdown teams) a little plaque or something at the awards banquet?

This statement alone should be reason enough to entertain that idea, PJ.

I like this suggestion, I don't know if it has a chance in hell of happening, but I think it would make the end of the season more interesting.

Re: WJ ticked off......
Oh I agree, have 1/2 the ladder be playoffs the rest non playoff the two then meet in the final. Sure I suppose we coupld argue non playoff teams making a final is odd in compared to other sports but we've well shot past the hope of any rational reasoning here and are just trying to make what the have work the right way.
They could either make the 8 playoff teams qualify and rank them that way or seed them 1-8 based on points coming into that event, I'm fine either way.
Ideally they would then post some type of prize money for whatever non playoff team earns the most points over those final 6 races also.
Picture the countdown this year. We've already seen a few races with less then full fields in TF. Wouldn't it be better to see Shoe pair up in round one of the playoff against Herbert ( I think he's 8 right now) then to watch him make his playoff run as a bye. Lord knows of all people he really doesn't need the advantage of a bye and a rounds worth of easy points.
