Re: Some old Connecticut Dragway pics

The last time I saw Jeff Usher race was in 1970 at Connecticut Dragway had a beauiful front engine dragster and was racing the Cody and White AA/FD for the "Connecticut State Championship". The Cody and White team won that day!

BTW, I still live in Connecticut

Re: Some old Connecticut Dragway pics

Thanks for those great pictures!!! I loved it when the cars were named with really fierce names!

That reminds me of "back in the day" when our Dad would gather us around the console record player and he would fire up the "Sounds of Drag Racing" albums!!! We would just sit there amazed at the sounds of the track announcers and the top fuel cars! I guess today we get "Sounds of the Strip" on the ESPN telecasts, but really......there is no comparison to hearing it on a record! My Dad would know who's car was coming up next just by hearing it!

I am going to have to go over to their house and look for those records!!! They were a trip!

Excellent thread. Google Maps at is another shot 41°31'17.23"N 72°21'34.60"W - Google Maps

Going for another thread hijack and a solid whooping from the moderators but what about Dover Dragstrip, any traces of it today? I have a location saying Wingdale NY, route 22 and 21, Pleasant Ridge Road but cannot find anything that looks like remnants. Anyone have more location details?

Re: Some old Connecticut Dragway pics

Dover Dragstrip, I when to the track once in 1971, from what I understand had a large deposit of Peat Mose under it and they removed all traces of the track to get to the Peat Mose.

Anybody out there.... is this true?

I think, National Speedway in Long Island is still intacted, mobile homes are on it?

Bob do remember Dave would take off his red hat when it rained or track was not safe. Great stories about that track in both Garlits and Muldowney's books.

Long Island. Check out YouTube - Drag Racing On Long Island New York which is simply excellent. 7 minutes of great footage from some New England tracks. Stockers, bikes against cars, Linda V, cacklers, Sox & Martin, Jungle Jim in the early Nova, running four wide at the 6:25 mark, jet against fueler and a load more. "Too much to list"...

Eh, is that snow on the side of the track at 5:50? That's worse than up here.

I believe it was '70 Dennis, Brian Frederick aka Brian Signs made a chair out of the rollcage, and it used to sit in his living room back in those days, I'll have to ask him if he still has that piece around in his new place...lol

Suzie,

The company that made the "Sounds of Drag Racing" albums, Fleetwood Studios, is still in business. They have converted the albums to CD and offer them for sale on their website.
