Re: NHRA Selling NITRO??????
I heard this in a conversation with a die hard big tire racer from Louisiana.
Psst I have a friend who has 6 drums of " NITRO " in his garage !
I'm not joking either .
Who would have thought !
And no I won't say who it is, it already has a buyer ! LOL
Saw a shot of Chinas largest city and the reporter looking at the smog so thick you could hardly see the buildings, he said Uh they may have started a little late to try to clean up their air so the Athletes can breathe.

Re: NHRA Selling NITRO??????
Sounds to me like the NHRA is simply trying to insure that there's enough nitro to get them through the 2008 schedule. They've already done away with the oildown fines to make things easier on the teams in tough economic times. Call me naive, but does anyone actually believe that they are now going to turn around and pick the pockets of the top fuel teams by charging them outrageous prices for the nitro?

Call me naive, but do you actually believe NHRA will sell it for LESS than the "outrageous" price currently being charged by VP?

Re: NHRA Selling NITRO??????
Who has a better interest in making sure there is enough nitro and distributor or the sanctioning body that needs it to survive? Perhaps it may not be a bad idea if NHRA did sell it. The big question would be how much would they charge? If they do it for a fair price, making it cheaper for the racers and turn a small profit that ideally goes back into the sport then it may be something to look into.

Re: NHRA Selling NITRO??????
The IHRA is selling nitro to the racers, so I'm not surprised that NHRA will do also. However, VP paid big bucks to be the ONLY supplier at the NHRA.
Will NHRA break the contract? My question is how the NHRA can get two containers from China and VP can't?

I totally agree with you, PJ. There's really no reason the NHRA shouldn't cut out the middle man and sell directly to the racers. They can have total control, and it if they sell it at a reasonable price, it would show some very good will toward the racers, and I think the racers could use that as much as anything right now.

Re: NHRA Selling NITRO??????
Yeah Steady.. but the Rumor Section on Comp plus is pretty darn reliable. Bobby wouldn't have posted it unless it's pretty valid.
My thoughts are this:
This is a SMART MOVE for NHRA. They should cut out the Middle Man, (ie VP). Remember the middle man has to make a profit as well. NHRA, (A NON PROFIT ORGANIZATION...in theory) can sell this nitro (AT COST IF THEY ARE SMART) to the teams to and help minimize the cost of running these cars, (which are getting totally out of control!). As much as I love "The Don" and "The Darkside", a pro owner should not be the supplier of Nitro to competing teams no matter what his intentions. It creates a conflict of interst. NHRA sold Nitro, provides no favorites, no "Markup" on merchandise, and gives assurance to the pro teams that there will be fuel for them at the races.
Perhaps they will create a ration like Nascar does with tires. For example, every Top Fuel and Funny Car team entered at a national event will have (1) Drums of Nitro supplied to them at each race, for qualifying. During eliminations each team that qualifies will receive (1) Drum of Nitro. Qualifying Purses would be reduced by the amount of the nitro. Teams reaching the Semi Finals will receive a 2nd drum (at no Cost).
Perhaps it's a pipe dream that NHRA would do something that is Logical and TAKES CARE of their Customers. But, NHRA providing the Nitro to it's participants MAKES sense! Let's see if it comes to pass....
