Re: No shoulder harnesses for Hillary?
Good point David. If the chin strap hit the latch as they're saying it did, and I have no reason to believe differently, then it would have released the shoulders AND the lap belts. They're all tied together.

Cam locks you can release just the two shoulder straps by not turning it completely. I've used that technique several times when the guys would forget about the arm restraints.
The cam lock seems to work like a gear, releasing each strap as it turns.

This can be analyzed to death, but the fact reamins that it was a FLUKE thing. There really is nothing else to say!
They are in the process of fixing the problem so that it never happens again!

Folks, it was a fluke experience -- one of those things that rarely happens. In th current configuration. I'm be willing to be it doesn't happen again.

Re: No shoulder harnesses for Hillary?
I don't really care how it happened, I just don't ever want to see it happen again.
Like somebody else said, that slo-mo sequence was wicked. Scared the crap out of me. I thought she was going to launch right out of the car.
Just think if she would have had the ole plexiglass cover over the cockpit like Garlits tried.

Suzie, sorry for the over analyzation but a lot of non racers don't understand that the belts are different. Both of them have their pros and cons, but their main job is to protect the driver.
This thread coupled with PMs from other racers have helped me decide to buy a head and neck restraint device and which brand to buy.
It's always good that a thread like that makes people analyze their own safety devices in my opinion.

Absolutely no one in this part of the discussion is attempting to place blame or hang anyone. We're (racers) trying to understand what exactly happened so we can prevent it from occurring to one of us!
It does need to be analyzed or a death could occur. I mean, if this could happen to one of the top teams out there, the odds are fairly good it could happen to anyone. And sometimes the fix is never reported to the masses.
And this discussion does not warrant the "beating a dead horse" deal either. If you've got nothing to contribute in this adult conversation, then stay out of it.
