Re: Cragar 3 second club?
In the interest of safety, the NHRA has announced they will no longer be racing side by side due to safety concerns. The competition will live on however where we will now be starting the cars in the pits according to schedule and measuring the decibel level of each car individually. Winner takes all.
We here, at the NHRA, are saddened to announce that due to hearing damage somewhere we will now confine these sound competitions to an enclosed booth where a recording of each car will be sent out to the fans via audio feed (at appropriate non-damaging levels, mind you) however, the smell of burning Nitro will be shot out of the t-shirt canons to accommodate those die hards seeking more reality.
We're also sorry to announce however, that economic conditions have caused a small, but necessary, ticket price increase. We hope you enjoy the new NHRA experience where safety comes to the forefront time and again.

Re: Cragar 3 second club?
They just don't announce the new 1000 ft rule. Have a computer put the projected 1320 times and mph on the jumbotron and most DA's won't know the difference. Does anyone use Cragar wheels anymore?

Re: Cragar 3 second club?
1000 ft or 1320
the difference is what =.5 secoinds
Don't think anyone will really notice the difference.
One thing that might happen is the crewchiefs may set the clutch up more aggressivly thus a faster accelerating car.
for sure IMO the racing will be closer, less engine damage, less fuel used.
I would bet money that we will see 300mph runs at 1000 feet by Sonoma
maybe even faster--watch them DARKSIDE RACING cars.
Remember the revlimiters don't kick in until about the 1200-1300 ft mark
If racing to 1000' saves one racers life then so be it.

I'm not arguing here.
Probably preaching to the choir.
I figure they are throwing the kitchen sink at these clutches now.
How much more can the tires and tracks hold?
I'm being rhetorical.
Head said they are hitting the limiter from 1000' on.
The rest is just undue strain.
And people are making it seem like the crew chiefs cannot wait to detonate these things as soon as possible.
The damage is happening (almost all of it) from 1000' on.
This make so much sense, it hurts.

END of discussion? You wish. If the drivers are uncomfortable now, how uncomfortable are they going to be pulling enough Gs to get to 300 at 1000'.
I 'm a Melanie Troxel fan for life.

Re: Cragar 3 second club?
I think we should all take a break and see how this plays out in Denver. I think the crewchiefs will be cautious at first and their tuneups will be relatively the same as before. They don't want any more bad press just as much as NHRA. When the points reset, then it's anybodies guess how the tuneups will change and the doom and gloomers short fuse theories will pan out.

Jack your right, this is just like the 90% deal when first implemented. I remember talking to Jimbo Ermalovich about it, he said it won't take but 4-5 races till we see where we can add horsepower! This guys are out to win, and don't bet Alan Johnson or Austin Coil's not going to look at bringing those 1000' times down!

Re: Cragar 3 second club?
i might be wrong on this but my thoughts are , if there is a major problem like in scotts case, 1,000ft wont make a difference. the crew chiefs will push these cars harder now without the rev limiter going off, these cars might be going 300 plus, if there is a problem god forbid, drivers will still get hurt or worse, didnt erics problem happen at around half track? and if there is a problem then what? 1/8 mile?
