I find it ironic that some of the same people that ***** and moan about a small goof from Page will probably vote for Obama who can't go a single week without making a major gaffe, like 57 states, or 10,000 people killed after a tornado (it was 12), or Habeas rights at Nuremberg, etc.
Well Duh Drag Racing is much more important than President

Paul (aka Fozzy) is still better on his worst day that Marty Reid. At least Paul does not make up his own drag racing terms.

Not me.

I am sick of the John Madden, Dick Vitale and Darrell Waltrip type of announcers.

I agree 100% with PJ.

There will be some OJT with every new job in all of our fields. But when I was hired for my job, I was expected to know quite a bit about my field. I find excuses like "he was still learning" or "he is new to drag racing" VERY WEAK. Especially with the talent NHRA has on hand. I am also very thankful for my DVR.

Re: He said "Turbo Charger" AGAIN!!

The thing that stood out for me in the article was his reference to the nitro cars having "unrestrictive rules". With 90% nitro, tire size, Spec gear ratio, rev limiter, minimum weight, max cubic inches and a host of others, I don't quite see his point in creativity and allowing for alot of changes.

It might not be the same as the Indy cars, But the NHRA won't let you think to far out of the box.

Re: He said "Turbo Charger" AGAIN!!

You didn't hear John Madden calling the NBA Finals last night did you? Although that might have been entertaining on it's own....or you don't have Troy Aikman in the Basketball booth. You don't put Dan Marino on the Baseball Tonight team. I disagree with any assesments that there isn't a drag racing announcer with drag racing experience ready for TV...

Now John Madden calling drag racing, that would be something...I did a joke about this thought a while back...went something like..

Well you got all these guys running around the car, you got the crew chief guy over here turning knobs on the motor, crew chief moves up pulls his guy in the driver is sitting in there thinking about a cold beer at the end of the day, then BOOM, he's gone, 330 mph. I tell you Mike, I don't think the bus is ever going to go that fast.

During an oil down he starts circling guys in the stands...

See this guy over here...That's a real deal turkey leg he's chewin on....

Re: He said "Turbo Charger" AGAIN!!

I think Paul is doing a much better job then he used to. Of course it must be hard for somebody that does not eat and breathe drag racing to be able to tell the fast moving infomation correctly always. We must remember that the TV announcers do other things besides living drag racing (Mike Dunn would be the exception). If you notice that very few of the drag racers they bring in for color commentary are able to add much to the runs they ask them to comment on. Our sport has so much happening so quickly that it can be hard to talk about it when you only have a few seconds to compose your thoughts.

Re: He said "Turbo Charger" AGAIN!!

Good point. There's no doubt Paul P and Marty R had the skill set to be a front man announcer, it's just that in drag racing, you have such a narrow window, you either have to know it or not. A good front man/color combo set each other up. The front man will pick up on something and set the color guy up for the answer.

Conversely, you can have all the knowledge in the world, but not be good in front of the microphone, so you have to have both.

I still stick to my point they need to have someone from the sport in the booth with Mike or whoever the color man may be.
