Pro Stock Bikes

The thread on favorite pro categories was interesting as PSB was hardly ever mentioned, and when it was, it was usually at the bottom of the list. I'm just curious as to the reason(s) the class is'nt very popular with the fans. I like the PSB's myself (as well as the other pro classes). And I've found the riders to be very friendly and fan accessible. The racing is good and there is very few aborted runs. So, what makes you want to go for a hot dog during PSB?

Just curious because I'd hate to see the class go away.

Everybody has an opinion about which classes should come... and go. So does the NHRA.

PSB really is a boring class. Now, please realize that I work in the motorcycle industry and have ridden since I was 5 years old. The bikes don't snort and kick and buck like the cars do, so fans are not interested. They want smoke, noise and near misses. You have to be a true lover of 2-wheelers to enjoy the class. The bike riders are extremely friendly people to talk to in the pits. I can recall spending time talking to Byron Hines, Ron Ayers, John Myers, Dave Schultz, Steve Johnson etc... and these guys acted like your best friend. Many fans don't like things that burn gas let alone have 2 wheels.

I enjoy them but mostly just to see who wins. I guess I am a fan of the people and teams rather than the actual bikes. I appreciate their speed but they just don't quite have the appeal of the other pro classes for me.

I have been a drag racing fan my whole life and except for the first 2 or 3 seasons Angelle came out, I could care less about PSM. I follow the class as far as who's winning and such and I even have drivers I like better than others and I know a little bit about it, but if it went away I wouldnt lose one wink of sleep. If it were up to me, NHRA would replace them with Pro Mod over night. They just dont interest me. But I will say this, the greatest pass of my lifetime that I saw in person: A few years ago, Larry "Spiderman" McBride on his Top Fuel Bike. The guy is nuts. At Houston he went the first ever 5 second pass at like 230,240. He carried the front wheel to the 1000 ft mark and had about a 4 ft flame the whole pass. It was awesome. NO doubt, the most inspiring thing I have ever seen. That ranks over some pretty awesome runs I have seen in person.

I'm a fan. Its very tight good racing and the performance gap that existed a few years ago isn't there anymore. They all run great. Just about anyone can win.

My only two concerns about the class are having 2 sets of rules (although the off season changes seemed to have help make it very even this year) and the overabundance of redlights.

I wish they'd run the full season, I think that would help fully bring it into the pro category. With only running a part time schedule, sometimes it seems like they're the forgotten step-child.

If the NHRA wants to spice up the show they should replace PSB with Nitro Harley's. Probably a set of rules could be written to encompass all the current bike engines. As the class sits now it is like comparing PS to the fuel classes, some people are interested but many are not.

The average fan wants to see lots of smoke and hear plenty of noise. That is the reason jet cars and trucks are such a big draw at the show nights local tracks have during the spring/summer/fall months.

Nitro HarleysŪ are not what they used to be. NHRA has run them this year as exhibition, and they are hard pressed to get four of them than can run decent numbers.
There used to be a lot of them, but it has apparently just gotten too expensive to do.

I like pro stock bik... err motorcycle, but It's probably because of the riders & their personalites more than the actual motorcycles. And don't get me wrong the bikes are fun to watch, but Nitro Harley's would be choice!

There are still quite a few around. They tend to run the shows and bike events. For them running an NHRA event is a money losing proposition. Pretty much the same as NHRA Pro Mod.

I am a fan of the Pro Stock Motorcycles. They are my favorite class even though there is no smoke and fumes. I guess I can better relate to the motorcycles (since I have had several over the years) than I can to the fuel cars.

OK, the fuel cars make lots of noise and smoke but so many of the races are won not by who is the best driver but who doesn't go up in smoke or drop a cylinder.

The Pro Stock Cars and Motorcycles put on a better show IMO. Each race is a close heads-up (please discount all the PSM red lights this year) finish. That is what I find exciting. Not all of the smoke and fumes.

I like to see two drivers both power their way to the finish line with nothing but inches between the winner and the loser.

I tend to get put-off at all the tire shake and blown engine parts in the fuel classes. Maybe that is why I enjoy sitting at the local strip watching the locals bracket race. It ain't loud but it is proud and sure is good competition.

Just to show that I don't mind the fuel cars, I named my dog Nitro Fish.

BTW: I LOVE that avatar. What kind of pup is that?

As the first poster mentioned, the PS Bike riders are the nicest and most accessible of all the Pros.
Full disclosure: First time I heard the bikes 15 or so years ago I said, "Those doen't sound like motorcycles" It was certainly an acquired taste.

Though I root for Antron and Angele, I still prefer the "authentic" sound of the Harleys.

PS: Maybe there are fewer fans cause folks can't relate to two wheels and 190 mph. Takes balls (in the metaphorical sense<G>.)

There's a few around but as Jay said, there's no longer enough 'good' ones.

Pro Stocks, Cars or Bikes, just aren't something I'd pay my money to go see. Heck, I'd pay to go see 8 Alky floppers first. Guess it's my roots. And it's not the fuel, I loved the twin engine Top Gas Cars, and blown Gas AA/GS.
Could be I can't jet a carb to save my....

I am a fan of PSM. The class has its personalities and rivalries and I feel it puts on a good show for the fans. I know not all fans like PSM, but that isn't a reason to get rid of a class. If that was the case you would only have TF and FC.
