I realize that Suzuki and the other Japanese scoots sell more inlines, than V-twins. But, they do have V-twins. Why not develop them, to go after the Harleys?

I don't think NHRA would allow them, probably because they'd kick the Hardley's and Buell's butts so badly it wouldn't be funny. How would it look when the Buell's and Hardley's were regularly getting their butts handed to them by Japanese V-twins? It would be a miracle if Harley or Buell could come up with something even close to the 9 year old Suzuki TL engines. Also look at what they used to do in the retired Hot Rod Cruiser class...big Yammies running low 9's all the time.

Re: Funny thought about the Harley's

Man folks sure have short memories. For YEARS, the V-Twins could not be competitive, no matter how much R & D was poured into them. The only things that finally made them competitive was to allow the CI limit up to 160 and allow the design changes that made the pushrods shorter, bore's bigger etc and allowed the engines to ramp up to make horsepower.
Let the metric bike guys whine for a while, what comes around goes around.

As for the Buells and HD's both being owned by HD, don't let Bryce and Smith hear you say that, unless somethings's changed. It may be called a buell, but the G squared drive train was developed by the owner of S & S and George Bryce.

Either way, its all pretty much fun to watch and good luck to anyone who can come up with the dollars and development to be competitive.
