And Dan, I find Hockey and NASCAR very similar, in a way. Why? Much like much of NASCAR's "fans" just watch the races for the crashes, a good bit of hockey "fans" just watch to see who's going to get into a fist fight. Think I'm off-base? Last year, a mater said about the clean, crash-free race at Bristol: "Just a bunch of cars going around in circles." If there was a crash, I bet his comments would have been different.
Most of the NASCAR fans I know - and I know plenty of them - do not watch the races for the crashes. In that sense they are no different from the average drag racing fan. Likewise, most hockey fans do not watch hockey for the fights. Nearly every hockey fan I know eagerly looks forward to the playoff season and the chase for the Stanley Cup. Since there are minimal fights during the playoffs, one would think that hockey fans would largely ignore the playoff season if fisticuffs were the primary reason they were interested in the sport. Games like football and basketball bore me to tears but I could watch a hockey game every day of the week - and often do during the season. In my book, it doesn't get much better than NHRA drag racing and NHL hockey.

Ladies please give be a greak... I'm gettin older & "Eye Candy" carries a lot of weight... For that reason, I'll watch only certain Tennis Matches, (one where the young girl had a sexy "grunt" whenever she hits the ball" Maria S.

Also Beach Volleyball is high on the list... I just love the see them spike it... one more

In ladies golf, there is not much to really enjoy from the Eye Candy Dept. Swim meets ain't too bad if they have the underwater camera (You NEVER see an over weight Swimmer) and also Womens Fast Pitch softball has some great "Hotties" Can you say "Jenny Fitch"

Yeah, that's why many NASCAR fans complain of a race being boring if it's clean and crash free. As far as hockey, remember the old Rodney Dangerfield joke? "I went to go to a boxing match and saw a hockey game." Hockey is not really taken seriously like it used to be and that's one of the reasons why the NHL does not have a TV contract.

By that standard drag racing also can't be taken too seriously since the NHRA pays for it's airtime while ESPN and other networks pay millions to broadcast NASCAR.

Re: How many people here Like Nascar?

My NASCAR like vs dislike has gone in waves for over 15 years. Right now, I'm in a 'like' phase....but I still only prefer to watch the last 30-50 laps or so. They pretty much will cover everything that happened up until then a few times before the end of the race. I am not a big fan of their pre-race coverage. It seems like they only talk to the same few drivers over and over. WAIT! Um, nevermind....

The difference is that NHL has gotten a reputation from John Q. Public as "The sport that people really tune in for the fist fights."

Most fans of the NHRA watch the racing for the action, not hoping to see people wreck or get into fisticuffs.

I don't really disagree with you regarding public perceptions. Hockey certainly does have that reputation, which was only been enhanced with movies like Slap Shot. The ironic thing is that there is actually much less fighting in hockey today than there was 15 or 20 years ago.

And you're spot on about most NHRA fans. I can honestly say that over the years I don't think I've ever met a single drag racing fan who was hoping to see a wreck.

Hockey has a contract with Versus Network, I am lucky, I am one of the 8 houses in the US that get it on my cable. The 4 OT game the other night was a good one.

Re: How many people here Like Nascar?

My dad always had some sort of races on the TV on the weekends. I still will turn on Nascar if we are home. Last year I got Box Suite Seats for Sonoma. We had a blast. It was alot of fun to watch but I think it was funnier having Shrimp, Lobster & Wine! LOL

Where I live we have both Verses and the CBC. Our cable system also added the NHL Network earlier this year. With CBC we get Hockey Night in Canada and lots of playoff games. But as a hockey junkie I also subscribe to NHL Center Ice, which shows almost every game during the regular season, and have NHL Home Ice on XM.

By the way, over the years I've found that there's lots of racing fans who are also hockey fans.

ODU? My God (UTENN not withstanding <they only THINK they invented WCBB<G>>) the Lady Monarchs were the pioneers of the sport.

Honestly, if it was a choice between the Daytona 500 and a NCAA womens Basketball game, I'd watch the BBall... Wendy Larry and the Lady Monarchs, just one of the things that makes Norfolk a nice place to live.... And, we're playing Football starting in 09... we don't need no Pro Sports

we respect UCONN down here, ya'll got some great teams, both mens and Ladies

Lady Vols?????? think I've heard of them.....

Re: How many people here Like Nascar?

I'll watch it if nothing else is on, but I don't really plan my day around watching NASCAR. IRL is my second favorite form of racing, they have a real points system and Marty Reid in the booth, that's enough for me.
