Re: The Coolest Dragster of ALL TIME!!
Fortunately I'm able to go back quite a ways when ingenuity seemed to be in its infancy so this one comes to mind. Not as sleek as some and maybe not the prettiest paint but in the day it was soooooooooooo COOL!

Re: The Coolest Dragster of ALL TIME!!
I think the coolest thing about Don's cars were that the owner, builder, innovator, driver, and tuner were all the same guy! THAT'S COOL! No surprise that today's NHRA wouldn't care for or cater to him.
No sponsor attracting businessman, no disrespect intended, will ever get the same kind of appreciation, IMO.
I wish the guy would come on here.

Johnny,
At one time, just about everyone and their brother had a Wedge all within a month or so. Leland, Snake, Goose, Greek, Conrad... Started with Mattel, they're swell with the hot wheels cars. But, the added weight and by the ends of the season, the cars were running without.

I wonder if that would've turned out differently if they'd had something like carbon fiber back then?

Re: The Coolest Dragster of ALL TIME!!
Tommy Ivo had some really nice cars after the Showboat. My vote is for The Greek's black car with all the gold plated parts. Was Blair's Fugowee a copy of Big Daddy's liner?

I think Blair's car was Amato's 1986 car (semi Garlits copy).

Now that you mention it, I remember Leland's. Never saw The Greek or Conrads. If memory serves, Garlits response was the 'Liner. Saw it @ OCIR. It was a real sled. The Spaghetti Bender's car (w/Tidwell etc.) was around at the same time and ran reasonably well.

Hands down, the best ever...
We kinda copied the feel of it back in the early 90's...

Re: The Coolest Dragster of ALL TIME!!
My favorite of all time was the "Jade Grenade" rear engined dragster, the one that had the front wheel fairings. Not the most impressive runner, but I thought it had extreme cool factor.

Hey Dave, in reference to those little junior fuelers from the 60's, I think it would be cool if there were something like that today. A lightweight FED with an injected, nitro small block. Throw it in Comp Eliminator.

Re: The Coolest Dragster of ALL TIME!!
They supposedly tried that! The N/D that Borgeis and Carter drive. Small block ,410ci, on alcohol. Record is around 6.8 seconds!
The class was designed to allow inexpensive cars to go fast, like they did in the '60's. Now, they're using Pro-Stock motors. Mega $$$.
