DIRECTV: DIRECTV - Best Offer
Whole lotta fine print in that contract. $18/month credit for the first 12 months, then bill goes way up, and adds box rentals. If you do not keep service 12 months, you get billed $150 for installation and you still must return all equipment and then there is the "up to" $480 early termination fee. If you live in Vegas, they consider the LA network affiliates your local channels, hope you don't mind watching "Good Day LA" and getting traffic reports on the 101/405/210 or their late local news. And what if you need a service call? It is gonna cost you. What if you want video on demand? Not available. What if you want high speed internet? Available, but way behind cable in speed and quality but not price.

What DirecTV sells for $39.99 per month for the first 12 months, Cox sells for $49.99 all the time (plus taxes, about $2 per month). No contract, no early termination fees, no fees for service calls. So if you keep the service for 2 years ... Cox would be cheaper and less of a hassle at the end of the 2 years, and most subscribers live in their homes longer than that, so imagine the costs over 5 or 7 years.

I understand that not all of you live in places where cable is available, or you live in small markets where a quality cable company like Cox or Time-Warner is not available, so I can understand the viability of satellite. I also understand that some people just get a burr in their saddle about cable and will get satellite.

Cox Communications - Cable, High Speed Internet and Telephone services in Cox Communications

DISCLAIMER: I do not even work for the cable company anymore. When I left the company I looked at satellite for my home service, but it just did not make sense for me. For $115 per month, I have 10 Mbit/s internet with 7 user/email accounts and 100MB of web space, 275 channels including all HBOs, Showtime, Starz, TMC, Encore and 35 HD channels and DVR service on 3 boxes. And all video on demand channels included except PPVs (HBOHD on demand is pure love). And local channels ... not LA channels.

PS good on ya DC ... glad to have you back.

Re: Dave C

I suppose if you're a deadbeat and don't live up to the agreement (similar to cell phone contracts) it could get expensive.

Bottom line...I pay $39.99 for twice as many regular channels as I had with Charter and have more true HD channels than anywhere else and I've never been charged a penny more.

Customer service is great...I made one call to an English speaking woman in Oklahoma and she walked me right through the issue.

We'll never go back to the dinasaur...
