Re: Where are the all the comp cars?
If you must claim your points from a certain number of national events and a certain number of divisional events, it's wise to pick and choose which races to attend to acquire points. Vegas is a tough track given the unique weather, the altitude and since it's usually attended by the big hitters. Suffice it to say there are easier places to challenge for a win than one of the toughest and most popular National events on the tour.

About 30 of them are in Ennis this weekend.

Las Vegas is an altitude factored track. What "looks good on paper" for adjusting indexes to the factored altitude doesn't match the performances on the track. Since the NHRA changed the rule last year, making index hits over .609 permanent CIC hits at altitude factored tracks, some Comp drivers will stay away rather than risk permanent CIC hits. I suspect there are a few of the 24 there now who have never run as far under their indexes as they have at this event.

Re: Where are the all the comp cars?
Since the altitude factoring is done based on a "standard day," anything other than standard day conditions makes the factoring process invalid, so runs at a factored track should be excluded from consideration for records or permanent CICs. The factoring process is flawed, but a valid process would be hopelessly complicated because it would require calibrated instrumentation and run-by-run factoring. Check the procedures for establishing aircraft airspeed and altitude records for an example of just how complicated a valid process would be.

Looks like two permanent CIC's in round one.
Fletcher is on his way home...

Re: Where are the all the comp cars?
The LODRS event in Ennis has 35 cars on the Comp Qual sheet, but Adam Hickey isn't yet on there as he rolled in over night and then discovered something wrong in the burnout and shut off.
Hickey's B & B Cobalt has 2 #1 qualifying spots so far this year, so look for the final Q sheets to change after the last session later this afternoon.
The D4 Comp Cash Reward bonus program offers the Comp racers a little extra $$ to shoot for here as well, with an extra $65,000.00 total purse this season, might be responsible for the full field as well.

Re: Where are the all the comp cars?
It's the stupid altitude factor that NHRA uses. I doubt we'll ever race there again until NHRA changes it. And my driver got married in Vegas the Friday night of the points race in Vegas in 2005.
