Nike commercial with nostalgia funny car

YouTube - Nike SPARQ training: 60 seconds

The funny car is at :21 into the commercial. What car is that and who's driving?

Re: Nike commercial with nostalgia funny car

That's Del Worsham's "Blue Max" vinyl wrapped for this shot. It was covered in Del's Blog by Bob Wilbur a few weeks back. For all the shots and passes they made though, very disappointing end reult (commercial). They could have used a lot more of it but as it is, they only used less than 2 seconds of footage of the car. They made several passes and even made a pass with the chute out. Being as how the theme of the commercial has all these so called "athletes" running with "their chutes out", why didn't they use more of the car??

My review of the commercial: 1.5 out of 5 stars.

It sucked.

I can see how this commercial might be confusing, but the wrapped nostalgia funny car was used as a metaphor for power, the parachutes used by athletes in the commercial is a training device to build strength... NIKE Sparq.

The commercial was not about drag racing, NIKE does very little to acknowledge any form of motorsport - although they did create some NASCAR crew clothing a few years ago with Tony Stewart. NIKE is all about human power.

The Blue Max was driven by Jeff Arend. Cory Lee and Grant Downing serviced the car between camera set-ups.
Here are some photos of the NIKE Sparq shoot at Irwindale's 1/8 mile Drag Strip.

NIKE gives a tremendous amount of help and support to athletes, just not in Motorsport.
