Sports Emmy Nominations

Powerade Drag Racing not mentioned on awards.

Jayski'sŪ Silly Season Site - Sprint Cup News Page

Opinion: This a great sport and recently it has gotten a lot of bad publicity from media and news corps, the tragedy's of last year and recent death at Bakersfield seems to be all they want to write about. Is NHRA and IHRA doing enough to promote the good side of this sport, is it going take racers ,sponsors, track owners and fans to promote the positive side, or should we let the sport go on as is. I know this has been in discussion a lot lately but I get upset when I don't see my favorite sport not being recognized by the national sports media.
What do you think?

Re: Sports Emmy Nominations

okay, I haven't seen any of the nominees, except in passing on the bar TV at the bowling center... but I can't see where any of the 23 races shown last year have done anything to earn a nom.

American Dragster looks like it was shot with an 8mm hand held camera the first season, I did not watch it at all last year. Driving Force didn't grab my attention last year and I stopped watching after about the third ep. Pretty bad for a hard core JFR fan.

Production wise, broadcasts last year were fair at best, storylines were the same week to week, and whoever is running the show in the trailer should just film the 'Indie' movie he really wants to make, he has no clue what his audience wants to see. There are enough stories at the track every weekend, you don't have to fab $^it and make a non-event something more than it is.

just my two cents,

Karl, do you think Speed Channel might be a better spot for NHRA , heck I think more people know more about IHRA. Sometimes I wonder if NHRA is paying ESPN to show the races. I agree the quality of the spots they show are poor.

Afternoon Mel.

Want to make it clear that I'm Happy for what boobtube time we get, whenever we get it.

The thread is about Emmy Nominations for sports broadcasting. I saw nothing in a hundred and fifty hours of tube time that warrants a nomination. And I feel the flavor of the show is colored in the Production Trailer. We talk about beating a dead horse here, you can't bring in new viewers on just Cotton Candy (candyfloss to are British friends) tastes great but a meal it does not make, nor do you want to eat it for three straight hours.

SpeedTV is totally ignoring NHRA all together, in my opinion. I and understand why with the IHRA being broadcast there. That's just the modern day "money pushes the programing deal" Yea I know that they give the highlights on Sunday at 7pm of the National Event, but WE aren't watching because WE are watching the event on ESPN2.

It really got my attention, and bugged the crap out of me on the Speed Performance Awards Show. The totally ignored the NHRA expect for JF's big crash. They felt the need to plug in MotoGP and Rolex in many spots NHRA should have shared the light as a nominee. Now I'm not saying there is anything wrong with MotoGP or Rolex. I understand, it's bang for the buck.
They broadcast those series so that's what they want to talk about.

When thinking about SpeedTV and the NHRA remember their Cup allegiance on Sundays. I don't think the NASCAR Victory Lane Show is going anywhere and I don't want to be getting to first round at 9pm.
