I don't think that is what he is saying, Wayne. There has been speculation that John died, then crashed. He said that he died as a result of the crash, not the other way around. He crashed, then died. I could be mistaken but that was my take on the coroners report.

No disrespect taken Mike. I only posted the article because it seemed to give the actual cause of Mr. Schumacher's death, vs. what everyone thought was the reason. I guess we'll just have to wait to see what the autopsy results were. If there are pictures of him slumped behind the wheel earlier in the run, that would contradict the coroner's statement.

Sad indeed.

My condolences for those he left behind. The support of their family and friends will help them through this difficult time.

A person can be in the process of a heart attack and slumped over or unconscious/semi-conscious and not be dead. Just because the coroner said he died from his injuries does not mean he would have been able to prevent what happened.

I feel a deep sympathy for the family and friends he left behind.

I have to admit though that if I had a choice about how I die, I would want to be doing something I love.

I'm not sure it had been mentioned earlier. There will be a memorial for John at the Haggin Oak Golf course in Sac at 1:00 PM Saturday 3/15/2008. Go to the back pavilian tent.

I'm doing something I likely shouldn't do but I'm passing along something from another board and I believe this information needs a wider audience.

The Autopsy showed massive coronary blockage of John's Arteries . The impact of the crash was the final cause . Both the Fuel shut off and Mag switch were in the "ON" position . And neither parachute had been deployed . The source was John's Crew Chief.

That seems to be more like what I expected to hear. The only reason I'm sharing this is that it's obvious to me by the number of hits and the comments that there are a great many people here that care about both John and Judee.

Please folks take care of yourselves. I've had a triple bypass and I've kind of let my self ignore my health in the last year and this is a reminder of what I need to do for me as well. Over the weekend there was another problem that started at Bakersfield and wound up in a cardiac care unit in LA on Monday. Several of you know Troy Cagle, son of early nitro driver Gary Cagle. Well his mom Fran started having chest pains on Sunday night after the races and didn't get to a doctor until Monday afternoon. She's in a Kaiser hospital in LA and she really needs your support and prayers right now. Please folks, don't ignore symptoms!

wow darryl i saw fran just before i left bakersfield and saw troy telling him would see them both soon
i lost my uncle when he was 34 and he left behind 3 young kids and a wife, i was very young when he died and it was a massive heart attack while jogging no signs though and as a fuel truck driver he was checked all the time

when i read one report the crash killed john i've seen him race for a long time in all various types of classes and got to see more when he ran nostalgia
he was a consciensous driver who if he had lift did or pull the chutes or shut of the car what ever but when he didn't do a thing on that run and darryl aand i looked at each other knowing something was wrong but hoped for the best

And last, but certainly not the least is about the symptoms. A friend of mine's dad died of a massive heart attach because he thought he was just having heartburn. This is especially critical for people who do have frequenrt heart burn. You get 'used to it'. Don't be embarrassed to have such a symptom checked out. While it could be that is all it is, getting it checked out just might save your life.

For those of you who were unable to attend John's memorial here in Sacramento on Saturday, I thought you might be interested in an update. Without surprise it showed once again how tight knit our racing family is especially when one of our own needs our support. The attendance was impressive to say the least (standing room only) and the celebration was fitting of a man who touched so many in so many ways. For myself, it was difficult seeing my dad well up as we watched the video they ran and listened to the stories and memories shared but once the service ended and everyone started reminiscing and catching up on old times the smiles that enveloped the room would have made John VERY proud. Several people spoke and told heart felt stories of amazing ways John touched them but the message was the same across the board. He was a good friend to those he saw every day as well as those he only saw from time to time. He was a very special person that touched everyone that he met and will never be forgotten.

Again to Judee and James, my thoughts and prayers are with you.

Great post Suzanne!! It was the best memorial that I have ever attended!! Lots of folks discussing the good times. It all sure helped me say good bye to a great person and mentor!!!
