Re: Update From 'the meet'
The motor never leaned out, nor did I hear a backfire. No chutes either.

John Shoemaker Passes
I just read at DRC that John succumbed to injuries in a crash at Bakersfield. I had to re-read it because I couldn't believe it. I'm very sorry to hear this and my prayers go out to his family. RIP John

Re: Update From 'the meet'
John Shoemaker was one of the racers who pushed for NHRA to start the Pro comp classes, which would become Top Alcohol Dragster/Funny Car! Godspeed my friend!

Re: John Shoemaker Passes
John's life was symbolized all that was great about drag racing, A TRUE LEGEND. A bucks down racing team that sacrificed everything to race. A craftsman that could build a car like no other. A guy that challenged the high dollar top alcohol class and still was able to sqeek out a win. A race team often made up of just his and his wife Judd. A man that loved God and Country.

I will guess that stands for 'wide open throttle'.

Re: Update From 'the meet'
Godspeed John. Always enjoyed seeing the American flag from his TAD in years past. My condolences to the entire family. If the early reports have any truth, it sounds like he left us doing what he loved. Only a blessed few could ever say that.

Re: John Shoemaker Passes
Growing up at Sacramento Raceway I was lucky enough to grow up around John. I have to admit it was very difficult having to call my dad this morning to tell him that he had lost one of his oldest friends. Due to this being opening weekend for baseball for my son, none of family was down in Bakerfield but now I'm somewhat glad that was the case. I spoke to friends who also stated that they thought he possbily had a heart attack during the run. What ever the case, this man went doing what he loved. I think that most of us hope that the same can be said for us when our time comes. My family's thoughts and prayers are with John's family.
