I used to umpire and have seen a lot older players make that same mistake. Drag racers think they are the only ones to go from hero to zero? How about the kid who walked off second base - he'd just made the first hit of the game for his team to break up a no-hitter.
Some teams actually practice faking the end of the inning, just to see if they can catch a runner napping. Sort of like blipping the throttle... |
