If you watch the video, it would appear that when KB hit the timing blocks, one of them got into John's car. Could that have caused the tire to blow? Not assuming anything or jumping to any more conclusions, just wondering if that is what I am seeing.
|
That's what it looked like *to me* when I stop framed the video, but that is purely speculation by a non-driver/crew, so take it with a grain of salt.
Whatever happened, it was NASTY and a miracle John and Kenny are still alive. I don't personally feel there is any one thing that caused it, just a freak accident.

I dismissed the clutch due to the mandated Ti cans and havent seen a
Ti can failure but not to say it could not happen.

In slow motion it looks like the tire blows or the body breaks apart at the same time it is hit with timing cone. But we should all wait for the results to come from Team Force.

Re: Did Force and KB Crash?
Get will soon John, my thoughts and prayers are with you, your family, and everyone associated with JFR. This year has been a really bad nightmare for JFR. Hopefully by the time the show airs thay will have some idea of what caused it.

which is what leads to me to believe the clutch came out. I know what you mean about the TI bell housing but it's the only thing that seems to make sense, rather then the chassis just breaking in half at the spot it did

Oh my... who gives a hoot why. It's drag racing; it's what these highly professional people do for a living and there is no blame, ever. If it was so easy...
What a dreadful year it's been.
Get well soon John.

the Mckinney TF chassis had there issue they all had to have the new pipe installed and the heat treating,
JFR is running Mckinney FC chassis maybe there may be a new stress point problem? I do not know it the FC chassis had to go thru the simular things that we had to do with the TF chassis?

Re: Did Force and KB Crash?
The tread can come off the tire, or a portion of it, and yet the tire can still look good, ie still holds air (I have seen it many time with all sorts of tires), to me it looks like the tread, or part of it could have come off, it doen't have to loose much of the tread section at 300+ mph to cause a catastrophy like John's.

AS a member of a TFD team and moving over to a FC Team I would DAMN sure like to know what was the cause if a major chassis failure.
If it was so easy......what?

after erics accident, part of the new safety features they came up with was strengthening all the frame rails from the motor plate back to the cockpit by adding more of them and using thicker tubing
