Re: Did Force and KB Crash?
Here are my $.02:
a) I don't think the cubes that Kenny hit damaged force's car, unless and it went under and out the other side extremely quickly, as you can see them go past and hit the guardwall
b) The car split in two while it was still in Force's lane - you can see his legs just hanging out in the air in the super slo-mo; possibly the tire started to shred?
c) The mainstream media keeps saying Bernstein hitting Force's car split it, but it was already split at that point; the driver's compartment was back by the left lane guardwall. What hit Bernstein was the forward front of the car with no driver in it whatsoever.
I'm wondering if all the other safety devices on the chassis didn't cause a weakness in another area of the chassis. It never should have broken like that.
Anyway, just some of my thoughts about that.

Mike Dunn said that the cars are supposed to break, just that way, on impact on the youtube video.

Top Fuel cars are supposed to, and the cockpit area is to stay intact. I can't imagine a Funny Car chassis is supposed to break like that to expose the legs to serious injury.

Re: Did Force and KB Crash?
John said “The car pulled in half and I’ve never seen that, ever. A tire came off the car just as I put the parachutes out and it literally pulled the car apart."
Will be very interetsing to hear the final outcome of what cause this .. if they ever figure it out.

Re: Did Force and KB Crash?
With all those sensors and the "black box" that Ford put into all of Force's cars I imagine that there will be a ton of information to go through, and hopefully they will find the cause quick, this kind of stuff can't keep happening too much longer, it's going to be frustating having to wait and see what they come up with.

Re: Did Force and KB Crash?
Unless all of the fractures got scraped or rubbed off, the failure sequence can be determined. Fatigue failures, buckling, and tensile fractures all leave distinct signatures on the material. Once the failure sequence is known, then you can start looking at ways to load the chassis to cause such a failure.
I don't really subscribe to the "cars are designed to break" at certain locations. I think the true philosophy is there are certain locations where the car is specifically designed to NOT break, such as the middle of the driver's compartment.

On impact with what? That car broke in half with virtually no impact.
I don't believe for a second that that frame is designed to come apart and expose the driver like that. Force is damn lucky he came out of that with as minor of injuries as he did. (if you can call those injuries minor)

Re: Did Force and KB Crash?
I can see a point for making a F/C chassis to fold or brake off in front of the engine, but not anywhere else!

Re: Did Force and KB Crash?
as i said in another thread the idea is for the chassis to break at the motorplate so that in the event there is an engine fire when the car hits the wall or comes apart or whatever the case may be then driver isn't sprayed with oil, fuel, fire or pelted with shrapnel from the motor coming apart....basically get the engine and most of the danger away from the driver

Re: Did Force and KB Crash?
I have only read this page, could one the cones that Bernstein hit possibly have got into John's left rear, I notice an explosion about the same time as the second cone is hit and sent into John's car
