Wow......I drove TA/FC there in June of '86........Sorry to get off topic but that would be funny if it was the same chassis.......
Frank was very complementary of McKinneys work, and assured us we had the finest beneath and around us he could get.
You definitely have a solid piece there........IMO

Oh........without a doubt.
However I did notice a safety safari member with the 'jaws of life' in his hand.........I am just wondering if a couple tubes had been cut away.
I did notice on the video also that a couple of the tubing ends seemed to be sqeezed/bent......I do not know if that is signifigant, or just from contact with concrete.

Re: Did Force and KB Crash?
From what I saw on TV last night, it looks to me as if the tire has come apart and started a sequence of events that saw the chassis break between the engine and the driver. It also looked like some debris from the block may have shot under John's car. From the right side angle it almost looks as if the car drops or collapses as it is going through the lights.
I slomo'd last night while watching it and after the rear of the chassis separates and goes off to the left you can clearly see John's feet sticking out of the whats left of the cockpit. I would expect to see some changes to the design of the foo tbox/leg area of the chassis.
I have never seen a Funny Car separate like that did. Scary stuff.
Get well soon John!!

Unfortunately that is not in HD.
You would not BELIEVE the world of difference in what you can and cannot see.
The more times I replay the DVR the more times I am convinced in my origonal theory (Disclamer.......that is STILL only a 'Theory')
I also have to keep a open mind that I could be mistaken.

From someone at the track, apparently when the car broke in half, his legs were hanging out, that's how his legs got so broken. They picked his boots up off the track.
As bad as this was, it could have been worse.
We know you're a tough old hot rodder John. Hope to see you back in action soon!

Re: Did Force and KB Crash?
I heard that same story Jackee..BUT it looks like the info was wrong... From the new update on NHRA.com it says he only had a broken ankle and a severly dislocated wrist(No break)....

His legs hanging out could, however, have caused the severe abrasions that the official updates have said, "are to the bone." When you're hitting/sliding on concrete at over 300 mph, a firesuit isn't going to do any good for you. It's cutting right through that.
I'm just glad that John's alive. And that Phil Burgess article was incredible.

On the replay you can actually see one of his boots come off
Really quite nauseating, but the outcome is definitely the bright spot of the whole incident.
I agree that John is a tough 'Hombre, and as a previous member noted, I can hardly WAIT for John to tell this story

If you frame by frame the video you can clearly see the right side tire come apart... first one big junk that splits into two.
